They are both smart. I own three Himalayan cats, and I know people who own Siamese cats. It depends more on the individual cat than on the breed. Himalayan are half Siamese (for the colouring) and half Persian (the fur lenght), they are both considered 'smart' breeds. But I think instead of intelegence, you should look for personality. Siamese tend to be more vocal, but short hair is easier to manage. Himalayans are quieter, but their fur tends to knot unless you brush regularly.
I myself prefer Himalayans, in my expirience, they tend to be easier to deal with. Also, thier fur is actually a kind of wool, so they are perfect for people who are allergic to the fur, so long as they don't cuddle them. My father is allergic to cat fur and we have three cats.
As for the gender, I suggest male, they tend to be more sociable, no matter what race. Most female cats I've met tend to be slightly more defensive, while my male cat is a masocist.
However, I suggest you go to your local book store and look up Cat Reference books, ones which describe most cat breeds and don't focus on a single one (those that focus on a single breed tend be bias towards said breed).
Good Luck!

I am a Persian breeder. A Himalayan is a Persian with the Siamese markings. I just wanted to be sure you knew of all of the hours of grooming a Persian coat takes. Personally, I believe that a Himalayan has a better personality but I am a little biased. To me a Siamese is a little loud and stubborn ( that is based on my Grandmother's cat solely) I do know taht a siamese is a little more athletic. Either way I think they are both beautiful. Good luck:)

Well from my experience with both kinds of cats; himalayans tend to be very mean but then again thats what they say about Siamese. the one Siamese cat I had was one of the best cats i have had! Everybody loved him. Very gentle and very smart. I got both cats as babies and the himalayan you couldn't do anything with him he was horrible even as a kitten. The Siamese was very young when i got him and we had to bottle feed him and he would let you play with him, brush him and at the time I was little so i would stroll him around in buggys and dress him up and he wouldn't care! lol My Himalayan no one could brush him or even pet him! ~Siamese are definetly smarter and boy cats if fixed are sometimes the best pets.

what do you want the cat for? if you want a quieter cat that is cuddly you may want to get a Himalayan cross or purebred (if you get a purebred, get one from a responsible breeder or get one from a rescue agency). if you want a cat that is a bit more independent, active, I think they are also a bit more troublesome because they think so much, and watch everything you do, then a Siamese is good. Again, a cross or a purebred either way, but if you aren't going to show it or you have no real desire to have a purebred, go to a rescue agency/society and give a deserving cat a good home. Girl or boy does not make a difference once you get them neutered/spayed it's all really in the cat's personality. I have both, they are all different.

A Himalyan is nothing more then a pointed Persian cat with a Persian coat. If its a cross of Himi and Siamese it would be a SHORT hair cat - no "in between". If you do not want to deal with a lot of grooming, then go with a normal short coated Siamese in whatever color point you want. I will caution you to reconsider getting another seal and another female - you will expect the cat to look and act like Crystal. If you want seal point, then maybe choose a male (pick either opposite sex or different color point). BTW quality bred purebreds from reputable breeders are not "sick a lot" like your friend claims.

I'm a little biased toward Meezers. I love the 'tude, the vocalization, and the intelligence. Himmies are adorable, too, but I'm not wild about all that long fur getting on my furniture (it's bad enough with shorthairs). And I've always had females, no problem. Just be sure whichever gender, that you have them spayed or neutered. That curbs some of the bad habits they can otherwise have, and plus then you're not adding to the overpopulation problem.
Enjoy your kitty!

I would highly recommend you research these breeds before getting one. Siamese cats are very popular but they are not for everyone. They require a more experienced cat owner. They can be intelligent, affectionate, playful, independent, and just plain clowns. However, they can also be very picky and show a lot of attitude.
The shelters has a lot of american domestic mix cats with siamese markings in desperate need of homes. American Domestic cats are very smart.
As for sex it makes little difference. Male cats tend to be more laid back. They may also be a bit more dominating. Female cats tend to show a bit more attitude but they also tend to be more attention seeking.

I have/had both.
I had a male Siamese when I was young.
He was very independant and only really cared to be around my dad.
Now I have a himalayan.
She's a total sweetheart and always wants to be near someone.
But I don't think you should base your choice on what type the cat is.
Pick a cat you feel a connection with.

I just suggest a siamese because they are least matienence, and most people cant care for long haired himalayans.

Neither. If you want smarter get a dog. If you want better get a boy.. If you want the best pet get a boy dog.
