I believe you have to file a workman's lien on the car. Contract a lawyer and start procedings, there is a waiting period before you take control over the car. good luck.

If you are a licensed mechanic, you can place a lien on the existing title. If there is already a lienholder, you will be next in line for payment. If there is no lienholder, you can file the lien and take the person to small claims court. If they do not show for court, you win the judgement and can then apply for the title. If he does show in court, the court will decide the outcome, and whether you get the car, or the person has to pay the bill, or both.

it really depend's on which state you live in, ifyou have any documentation of the money's owed to you, and if in that it states that he releases ownership of the vehicle to you if money is not paid for work done.
because it is possible for you to sell the vehicle, if you can get a bill of sale from the owner signing the vehicle over to you for the money owed. the vehicle has obviously been abandoned so you are in right to get backsomething.

In most states the dmv has a procedure you must follow to get an abandonment completed. I believe they will provide the owners name and address to you. After the time has passed for the abandonment, the vehicle will be yours. Then you can title it. Please note: abandonment procedures vary widely by state.

if you just want the owners name, write down the VIN (vehicle Identification Number) and take it to your local DMV. They will be able to tell you who the cars registered owner is from that. The VIN is usually on a plate on the engine (actual location depends on the type of car).

you probably shouldn't have invested money into it w/o having it titled in your name. carfax.com may help you out with the owner. It may even be bank-owned. In that case, you will have to return it to the bank.

Go to the junk yard and get another motor to put in the car. And make sure you get the title to it.
