What exactly is an orthopedic surgeon? Orthropedic? Not sure what the exact term is. I know a guy who recently had to go to Alaska because of this... his job is an orthopedic surgeon. I didnt know exactly what this was, and why? Could anyone explain!! Thanks!

an orthopedic surgeon is a surgeon that specializes in orthopedics. basically, anything to do with fixing bones.

There are many kinds of surgeons:
general surgeons- operates on the internal organs, esp those in
the abdomen
Plastic surgeons- for repair of soft tissues, and beauty experts
thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon- operates on the heart,
lungs and blood vessels
orthopedic surgeons- operates or fix bones
neurosurgeon- operates on the brain, nerves
urologist- operates on the kidney, bladders, etc

the list can go on and on.....

Anytime someone needs special surgery to fix any limb on your body then an Orthopedic dr will be called in to fix it.

It is a Surgeon who specializes in Bones....usually putting them back together
