When my sister went to college, she borrowed a lot of my cds, dvd, computer games, gamecube games and a gameboy advance. Now one gamecube game, the gameboy advance, and a computer game are missing. She did not ask permission to take any of my things, even though we shared them. My mother told her to replace them, but I dont think she will. How can i make sure that she replaces the lost items?

The only way to really enforce your sister to replace the stolen items is by taking her to court. However, this will do nothing other than give you back items that can obviously be replaced and damage your relationship with your sister. The relationship with your sister has more value than all those items stolen.

Instead talk to your sister about this problem. Let her know that you didn't appreciate her borrowing your belongings without permission. Also, when she borrowed these items she took on the responsibility of ensuring that 1. they got back to you and 2. they were returned in the same condition in which she got them. Clearly this hasn't happened. Let her know that you are not blaming her for the items getting stolen but none the less she is responsible for replacing them. Maybe make a deal that she can make payments so she doesn't have to stress out about having all the money upfront.

I would also suggest that if your sister does not replace the items you make it clear to her that she is no longer allowed to borrow any more of your things. If you have to, stick a lock on your bedroom door.

Either have your parents take the $$ for the missing items out of her allowance for college, or, refuse to pay tuition until they are replaced.

You will just have to keep plugging away.If she wont replace then I suggest you ask her for the cash to replace the missing items.Your mother would be the best person to do this, to ask your sister.
