Everyday, most Americans walk into a workplace that is owned by someone who wasn't democratically elected, and they are told what to do, and how much in pay they deserve. We can elect representatives. There are 535 such law-drafting representatives for 300 million people. Even still, these democratically elected representatives are made electable by having a lot of initial money, and investors (the same people who own those workplaces), and after they are elected, they are educated by private lobbyists that are funded by people who own workplaces. Further, these people who vote in elections are people educated by a media (another workplace, really) that is owned by a small group of people, certain ones Australian (News Corp.)

America can be a free country. As far as I can see, though, a free country has to start with a free workplace.

When you look outside of the United States we are a free country. The citizens of our great country enjoy freedoms undreamed of else where in the world. That's why everyone wants to come here to live. Get out in the world, travel outside of the tourist areas and see how people live outside of the U.S. Tour Europe, South American, the Middle East. The population of the world at large lives far below what even the poor of our country live.

As for working for others, you don't like it start your own business, don't like taxes- look at what others in the world pay. We as Americans enjoy more freedom, less taxes and greater benefits than anywhere else in the world.

Within the USA you have the liberty to choose your path. Not all paths lead to riches... not all paths start at the same spot... but you get to make the choice... just don't expect me to pay for your bad choices. With freedom comes consequences, everybody wants a positive outcome however they don't feel its fair for there to be negative outcomes. Don't expect government to make your life better...do it yourself. There is still opportunity to pull yourself up by the proverbial bootstraps in America, that is why millions of people are breaking the law and risking their lives to get here.

Anarchy
would rain supreme if this was a truly free country.
You would be able to make and break your own laws
not laws made up by someone else

To quote a previous poster -
"We as Americans enjoy more freedom, less taxes and greater benefits than anywhere else in the world"

The list should include, inter alia :
"greater number of violent deaths", "greater disregard for the poor and less capable", "greater number of guns on the streets".

Your are free to work your tail off and become a billionaire, or you can chose to exercise your freedom to be a bum leeching off of the wellfare system and whining about how rough you have it. That sounds like freedom to me.

I have chosen to work my fingers to the bone running my own business. When I am a billionaire, I too, will be free to do anything I darn well please.

There is freedom but government has been regulating the rights to protect the interests of the state.
