My new kitten is a ferile cat, who I am fostering/possibly keeping. She had diarrhea when I first got her from milk feeding. Now she has diarrhea again, wih blood in it, I think it could be from switching her dry food to a different dry food.

Is it possible this switch of food could cause bloody diarrhea?

Is it possible it is something worse like Coccidia, or not because the diarrhea has stopped once before?

I havent been feeding her any cow milk/soft food.

I think my best bet is to take her to the vet, thanks for the great advice.

Ew--I know how that is. I have a 4 wk old kitty that I rescued and my partner overfed him on accident, not realizing that a little kitty needs a specific schedule for feedings.

I get a lot of remedies and suggestions from Dr. Pitcairn's NATURAL HEALTH FOR DOGS AND CATS book. It suggests that diarrhea tends to come from overfeeding and to give it water and an electrolyte fluid for 24-48 hours (by then his system should be cleaned out). After that time, start giving him a little food at a time. My kitty is still little enough that he's still on wet food and KMR. There is also an easy little home remedy for cat diarrhea that has worked on my oldest cat that involves sea salt and cammonile tea.

I've learned from experience (3 cats) that switching food causes finickiness or diarrhea but never bloody stools.

If your definitely sure that there is blood take him to the vet.

Switching food on a kitten can be difficult but it should not cause bloody diarrhea. A parasite burden is likely but the blood in the stool may be indicative of something more serious. It is a priority to have the kitten seen by a vet.

Take your cat to the vet, It needs medication. Cats do not get bloody diarrhea from switching food. It sounds like some type of bacterial infection.

Oh Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! You should take him to the vet I changed my kitties food and that never happened and it could be the milk kitties aren't supposed to drink cow milk cuz it gives them diarrhea so if you have been feedin it cow milk then thats why the have special formulated milk that they can drink at walmart or even petsmart but if you haven't been feedin it cow milk then take him to the vet

Switching a pets food usually has an effect on them. I had a puppy that couldn't keep her food down after I switched brands.

it could be worms or coccidia it would be best to take her to the vets and have her checked.
both worms and coccidia can kill fairly quickly if not treated. in the meantime make sure she gets plenty of fluids.

give her a little pepto bismol and feed her soft food for a while and see if it gets better if not then see a vet. Or you can give what they give infants for diarrhea. But give her soft food.
