My contract will end this Sunday (June 24). I have yet to get news form my company whether they'll renew my contract or not. Or maybe they're waiting for me to ask or something? I don't know.

So a friend of my mum's has a job offer (receptionist, to be exact), which is way below the job that I have right now (sub editor). And the pay is far less appealing.

Should I take the risk of turning down the receptionist post and continue with this editor job (despite not knowing about the contract renewal thing, but I will ask soon).

Problem is, my mum's friend wants an URGENT answer right now. Do you think I should call up my Chief Editor and ask him about the future of my career with them now, or do I say "yes" to the receptionist offer?

All views will be highly appreciated... thank you!!

Your current boss shouldn't be waiting till the last minute to give you the information, unless he or she assumes that you already know you will be staying, and the contract is simply a formality. However, it wouldn't hurt to call your boss and ask if you are expected to sign your renewal on Sunday. That way, you'll know what to do.

Call your Chief Editor right away and ask if your contract will be renewed. You need to do what is best for you, and you can't make an informed decision on what that is if you only have half the information.

I think that you should talk to your Editor and ask him how long the contract is going to be. Then, make a decision about the receptionist job based on that. You can tell him that you have another permanent job that you are looking into.

Call your Chief Editor and ask. You shouldn't be made to wait until the last minute to find out. People have to make a living. He/she should understand that you have a future to plan and shouldn't even ask why you're asking about it...it should be obvious.

You don't have to mention the other job offer, just say you're wanting to know if you will need to start looking.

Good luck.

I would ask the editor. You don't want to talk a job below you unless you need to. Talk to him soon, becasue If they are not going to renew your contract, it is better to have a lower paying job then no job. Best wishes!!! :)

I'd do my best to get the contract issue ironed out. I wouldn't take a step back if It wasn't absolutely necessary. That's just what I'm thinking. Good luck!

Yes, I would... keep your options open... I would ask your boss the status of your employment for the 2007-2008, if that is how your contract is...

Good luck
