He was apparently second to God wasn't he? I'd think he'd be pretty good at making us think we're doing the right things when we're not.

The roadway to hell is paved with the best of intentions. What does this mean exactly?

Where the heck did you hear that? Maybe it has to do with this: The path to Hell usually seems fun and might I even throw the word dandy out there and it's the WIDER path that more people take than the smaller one. In the end, Heaven's gonna end up WAY better than Hell, it may seem like it makes life better doing bad things now, but when it's all said and done it's gonna stink. Plus, you'll feel a lot better [those weights on your shoulders will disappear] taking the narrow path. =] The roadway to Hell is paved with the best of intentions--not true at all, mate.

No, hes way smarter than I am. I would try to overthrow an omnipotent, omniscient god being that created everything. Hes a real genius. Just following the line of thinking I would take on this god character with just 1/3 the forces as well. Sarcasm aside hes the stupidest character in the bible unless he knows something we don't.

I don't know that I as a human being would be able to outsmart Satan alone, that is why I need God's help. Satan is constantly trying to tempt us to lead us to sin. And no, Satan was never second to God but he thought he was better than God and began to oppose God. The saying you asked about basically means that you can always have good intentions at first but it is your actions that really matter.

Yeah, I am smarter than satan. Aren't most people. It means that the majority took the easy road cause it looked pretty. Their intentions were good but the easy way out failed them. Again.

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions". Hitler thought he was doing a good thing, so do some Muslims when they carry out suicide bombings and so do some Christians when they criticise others, in their faith.
Being smart isn't the same as being wise.

Satan was not second to God. He was an archangel who might have thought he was second to God, and that caused his exile from Heaven. He does not rule Hell, he is there suffering like everybody else.
But he is very smart, as one has to be to tempt people into doing what they know, or should know, is wrong, and giveng him their souls and suffering for all eternity. If you believe that kind of thing.

To many believers, atheists ARE Satan, so to ask if we think we are smarter than Satan is to ask if we think we are smarter than ourselves. Personally speaking, I have good days and bad. Some days I really outdo myself.

"We're fighting against humanism, we're fighting against liberalism ... we are fighting against all the systems of Satan that are destroying our nation today ... our battle is with Satan himself."
--- Rev. Jerry Falwell

Reason is the Devil's greatest whore; by nature and manner of being she is a noxious whore; she is a prostitute, the Devil's appointed whore; whore eaten by scab and leprosy who ought to be trodden under foot and destroyed, she and her wisdom ... Throw dung in her face to make her ugly. She is and she ought to be drowned in baptism ... She would deserve, the wretch, to be banished to the filthiest place in the house, to the closets.
— Martin Luther

The Bible says he disguises himself as an angel of light. He makes sin look great and deludes us at every opportunity. The enemy's best offense is stealth. Why would he reveal himself to us?

On your other question, it means thinking about doing the right things, but not actually doing them. It doesn't count if you only intend to be faithful to your spouse but then fail to do so.

And no, I don't think I'm smarter than him, but I have the blood of Jesus on my side which he can never defeat, so I'm not worried or afraid, just vigilant.

I am not certain of his intelligence, but if he could whisper into the ear of many a brilliant man, I wouldn't say he was an idiot. I'd say Satan is definitely a fool

exactly what it says. "oh, I had intended to get saved but"
"I tried making up for my rejecting you by being nice"
"I didn't intend to doom others to Hell, I just thought..."

good intentions alone don't cut it
