She doesn't believe me. She says that no one can not believe in god, they can just not believe in organized religion. Should I just ignore her or confront her? And should I tell my mom?
My family's protestant and we've never really been religious so I think they should accept me but how should I tell them if I should?

Oh and my mom would never hit me. I talked to her when I was 12 and told her I was thinking about converting to Wicca and she bascailly said whatever floats your boat. I have a feeling she may not believe in god all that much either.

If your Mom is understanding, talk about it with her. If not, wait until after you are grown and out of the house.

I've heard a few stories about kids getting hit for not believing... so, only if your safe to do so.

One might be asked How can you prove that a god does not exist? One can only reply that it is scarcely necessary to disprove what has never been proved.
— David A. Spitz

An atheist doesn't have to be someone who thinks he has a proof that there can't be a god. He only has to be someone who believes that the evidence on the God question is at a similar level to the evidence on the werewolf question.
— John McCarthy

That which is asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.
— Christopher Hitchens

Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary proof
— David Hume

No man should dogmatize except on the subject of theology. Here he can take his stand, and by throwing the burden of proof on the opposition, he is invincible.
— Elbert Hubbard

I am in your same position although my family is religious. It's so hard because you want to tell the people you care about your opinion and how you have found happiness and why but you don't know if they will understand.

Play it out, maybe mention to them that some of the facts you know and see their reactions. If it doesn't get their back up about then tell them.

I think if they truly love you they will accept you

You don't have to tell them. I haven't, but I do have an older brother and a younger brother (19 and 15), and they don't believe in god either.

Ignore her. Christians need to believe that atheist KNOW there's a god so they can justify the way they think. You won't be able to change her.

Dahlink...Your sister is intitled to her belief. If she prefers to accept delusion as reality, let her. Just continue to be a good human and do no harm.

your sister is right.

there can be no such thing as an atheist.

why? because no human being can be 100% SURE that there is no God.

are you 100% SURE? are you all-knowing?

for christians, we know for sure there is GOD, by faith, and with evidence.

so if you are not 100% SURE there is no god, i suggest you still go church and be patient. open up your spiritual eyes and ears in Jesus' Name!
