I guess I would have to ask you some questions. Is this constant where he paws at him whenever he's in the room? Is it only on his left side?

Dogs have a very acute sense of smell so maybe he is aware of something that you guys don't know about.

In rare cases, dogs can smell cancer and is responsive to seizures for people 10-15 minutes before they even occur. i don't want to scare you but those things do happen.

It may mean nothing more than a habit. Many of us have behaviors that are asymmetrical. Always lying one way on the couch. Combing our hair to one side. Always hugging someone with our head cocked to one side versus the other. Psychological research has shown that most people imagine events in their heads as occuring in the same direction nearly every time. Most commonly in English speaking countries, that is left to right, less commonly right to left. Maybe the dog has just learned to associate that particular gesture with one side of your husband.

Get him checked out, dogs can smell cancer! yep thats right and some of the things they do to people who have cancer are, nibble and paw at a certain area. Here is a story of a dog who saved his owners life because he kept pawing at her side until she went to the doctor and found she had cancer, if it wasnt for the dogs behaviour she would have never caught it in time. http://www.purina.ca/halloffame/winner.asp?year=2006&winner=hall2006_teddyBear

Scientific studies show dogs can even smell cancer on a persons breath!.. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/01/0112_060112_dog_cancer.html

PS i dont mean to scare you but if it could save a life then I have to speak.. dogs have a very good sense of smell, maybe nothing is wrong but it is worth it to check it out because early detection is key, when it comes to cancer.

Over the years I have learned to "listen" to my dog. She is always right. He could have a sore there, even tho he might not know it. She could just want to be petted. I recently injured my arm and my dog knows it.
