I'm pretty sure you're wrong.

No, you can't bill them for treatment as such because someone would have to make the decision whether it was completely self inflicted, or they had a bad reaction to alcohol, or if they had hurt themselves in a way that didn't necessary correspond to the amount of alcohol, and the NHS staff could not be asked to do this as there has to be some legal way of looking at the situation and right of appeal etc. Maybe it would be better therefore if the police were more willing to prosecute for drunk and disorderly, and the counts could decide whether to fine and some of the amount could go to the NHS. It would be more costly than if the hospitals billed directly, but it would be more in line with our justice system and it would go on records so it might be more of a deterrent than just asking for the cash, and it would avoid the dilemma about where the line is drawn with smokers, over-eaters etc. because these behaviours aren't chargeable offences, and the NHS would still be fulfilling its obligation to treat.

Hmmm? Parakeet, is that a pun on paramedic, or some kind of "para-kit"?

I've worked on the ambulance for over a year now, and if there's a parakeet somewhere, it's hiding very well (and not pooping)

:)

I used to work on ambulances and you are wrong, they do not keep animals in the ambulance. Not sure where you got that one from but it is wrong. Birds carry germs that are very bad for humans.
