That's a good question considering many people's understanding of God. Fortunately the truth is far more reasonable.
Our Heavenly Father created this earth to help us develop an understanding of the difference between right and wrong. To facilitate this process, he created conditions where there would be a variety of opinions on truth and people would be free to make both good and bad choices.
To help illustrate the need for this, consider the following example. I tell my children not to lie and even why. Hopefully they'll obey, but they will probably gain a better appreciate on the importance of honesty as they experience what happens when a relationship is damaged due to dishonesty.
Our Heavenly Father will do everything he can to help his children grow and develop. He won't give up on any of us.
This isn't speculation -- this is revealed truth through prophets called of God in modern times.

A life without Love is torture. A world without Love is filled with War, Death and torture. Without Love there is only pain and suffering.
Love is what heals our pain and gives us a new start at life. When we have Love in our hearts we seek to ease the pain and suffering of others.
God is Love.
God does not want us to suffer but won't force us to follow. It's our choice and some chose suffering.

That's not how it works.
We are destined for Hell at birth. It is by striving to be acceptable to GOD that we avert that fate and become worthy of Heaven. Is it that hard to understand?
Try this:
Noone has permission to live at your house indefinitely until they win your trust. Once they do, they can. Why should GOD be any different?? He's got some really nice stuff in his place.

If we don't believe in him how can he save us without our faith, and then wouldn't we be the Antichrist if we don't believe in Christ. The only torture I could think of is not believing in him.

If you have children you may understand a little better. You want the best for them. You'll do anything for them as long as they want it. Now, if they choose their own way..what are you going to do? Force them to obey and love you?

Understand that God does not send people to hell. People send themselves to hell for rejecting God. God gets no enjoyment sending any one to hell. (Ezekiel 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?)
Why you ask? This is why. God is so righteous that he can not let an unrepentant sinner into heaven. If God let everyone into heaven he would be unrighteous by allowing evil to be equal with good. Now we are not good by our own obedience but by the blood of Jesus. We wear his righteousness by believing in him . So with his blood/ righteousness we present ourselves unspotted and pure before the judgment seat. This is a free gift of pardon, his blood paid for our sins . We must accept it and serve Jesus with all our heart.

Well for one, The Jews didn't BELIEVE and Jesus ended up going through hell and back. Do you think maybe that might have something to do with it?!?!?
