Hi all.

For some time ive noticed that just as my eyes are closing and im about to go into a sleep i feel my heartrate slow down and it usually feels horrible. My head starts feeling like electric is passing through it, like a buzzing feeling but it really is heard to explain.

As soon as i awake (i usually have to wake myself up out of it) my heartrate rises and is normal but i often feel groggy.

Ive had it for a few years and its started to happen more frequent. I jump out my sleep often and sometimes i have horrible dreams were i cant breath which i remember in the morning. One time i was got struck by lightning and my body was doing some mad stuff until i woke up and i was then normal after about 30 seconds.

Is this common, could it be apnea or something else? my friend has had paralasis when he sleeps im scared it will develop into that.

any help/resources would be great.

This is a normal biological reaction. It seems you have a mental lag when it comes to sleeping: don't worry about it. Sleep paralysis is scary, but it's not a consequence that mental lag can develop into. You're fine.

The best thing to test for this would be to get a Holter monitor test--this is a portable 24/7 EKG monitor you wear for a few days & keep a diary & mark episodes in it that were important & then they collate them to the EKG findings. A slow hear rate is called bradycardia; apnea is when you stop breathing--generally they are due to different causes; but a holter would give alot of valuable info to start.

apnea is where you stop breathing in your sleep. and your heart rate usually slows down in your sleep but its proly a bad thing if you feel it, you should proly get off this webite and go to the doctor to get it checked

the more you think about it the more it will happen
your heart beat slowing down is normal when you go to sleep
it is food or medication that is causing the dreams

some of what you describe is pretty normal, but some is most definitely abnormal. My suggestion is that you talk to your doctor about a sleep study.

as immpossible as it is, it sounds like you're going into rem sleep w/o really being asleep yet. i've no idea what it could be.
