There are Shake surname message boards at:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/shake/

and

http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.shake/mb.ashx

About Shake, ancestry.com says:

shake
Americanized form of Dutch and North German Schaack. v

I hope some of that might help but really, the best way to find the history of the surname is to trace back your genealogy one generation at a time.

Good luck,
Dave

The surname SHAKES may be of Roumanian origin. A shake in Romania is a roof tile. The name could be Jewish or simply a Latin/Italian/Roumanian name.

It's an Anglicized corruption of High Ecclesiastical Latin usually found amongst Trappist Monks and pronounced - "Deus Tremulous" which thanks to Henry the Eighth and the Reformation was shortened to DT's by the wary monks who still practised their religion (and ale making) in secret.
These monks came to be known as "Shakes" by the still faithful that they ministered to because of the fondness for a quaff of ale while taking mass to steel their nerves lest they be discovered...

So perhaps somewhere down the line you are related to an Abbot or suchlike..

I checked on Ancestry.com, and they have very little on the name. In my experience doing genealogy, this almost always means that it's a corruption of some other name, and probably very unique to your family. Unfortunately, without more information, it's very hard to tell you much more about this name.

It's also Spanish for "market." Well, isn't your father Puertorriqueño and your mother FIlipina? Or isn't your father Filipino and your mother Puertorriqueña? All you got to do is ask them, their siblings and parents (even their own granparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins if they're still alive) in order to find out.
