Here lately, it seems I am almost as active when I go to sleep as when I am awake. I have always talked in my sleep, and there have always been periods where I walk in my sleep. But lately, things have been getting a bit weird and out of hand.
For instance, last night I went and opened every bar of soap in the bathroom. I found the wrappers under my bed. I have woke myself up, sitting on the porch eating a peanut butter sandwich. *that was last week*. I have even initiated sex with my husband while I was asleep. *and no, I wasn't dreaming about sex that I recall*. Also, I woke him up because I slapped him a couple of times lately. There have also been signs that I have 1)tried to do the laundry, 2) brought the neighbors cat into the house, 3)put every one of my books in the closet.
Does anybody else get this active in their sleep? Is it normal? What causes it?

I'm not actually sure, but i think your stressed out or maybe tired from a day's work. i also have those kind of dreams, i sometimes punch somebody in my sleep or go downstairs to turn on the t.v. but that actually happens to me if i don't get enough sleep, tired from day to day activities or stressed out. i hope this helps...

Racer 51 is right. You might also try reading a book, relaxing (an hour or two prior to going to bed), drinking something warm prior to going to bed. I would also talk to someone you trust about whatever may be stressing you out. Racer 51 has my vote for best answer so far.

You really do need to go to a sleep clinic. I saw a series on Dateline, I think, where people were doing all kinds of wierd things in their sleep. Some were violent and others were just doing odd things. Point is if you are doing all these things then you are not resting. Your body needs to rest to rejuvenate it and be able to heal itself. A sleep study will help you, I promise.

Stress, or depression, I don't care what anyone says, I just got out of my teen years, now I'm living life, it was much much more stressful to be a teenager than an adult.
