i was aneorexic for a year and a half after my close friend died. i didnt mean to, i just lost interest and stopped eating. after being in the hospital for a bit, i gained back enough weight to be deemed healthy by my doctor. i am still really self-concious about my weight and appearence. the funny part is that i am terrified now of weighing myself. after a year and a half of being addicted to my scale, now i cant step on it. i havent used it since i was aneorexic. i have no idea how much i weigh.. i am guessing about 125 and i am 5'7". should i try and conquer this fear, or just leave it. is this unhealthy?

Dont be afraid to weigh yourself. Just don't depend too heavily on what it says. Do you know that one gallon of water weighs SEVEN pounds? If you weigh yourself in the morning before you pee, you can get one number, later after you've had a coffee or two, maybe a soda, and a small meal, the scale would show something entirely different. It's best to focus on being "healthy"
Dont get sucked into the too fat, too think, lets look like a model baloney. Just try and stay fit. Exercise, get lots of sleep, eat HEALTHY, and most important, stop worrying about what the scale says. Smile a lot. Keep on thinking those happy thoughts. Tell someone that you care about them. Work hard at loving yourself.
Good Luck!

I also have had lots of eating disorders--you name it, I've had it from purging to overexercising to starving and even overeating. What my doctors always, always told me was to not have a scale in the house. If you're terrified that means that mentally there are still some lingering obsession with your weight. I just bought a scale a month ago and even at my stage (where I have no eating disorders) I find myself weighing at least once every three days. Now if you are still obsessing you know if you see you've gained a little weight you're going to have the urge to starve. Instead I would just "figure my weight" by pant sizes. For example if you were a 5 you'll know you've gained 5 pounds if it starts feeling tight. I would really recommend talking to a therapist who is familiar with eating disorders before using a scale. Your fear I think is healthy because it's probably the only thing keeping your disorder from relapsing.

I would say never step on the scale again personally. Because you still appear to have some anorexic tendancies and stepping on that scale might create a down ward spiral again, of you not liking the number you see! talk to you doctor, find a good weight for you to be at, step on the scale backwards so you can't see it, and then let your doctor tell YOU how much weight you need to lose or gain. I hope this helps, it might seem extreme but that's because your condition still appears to be with you. Goodluck and your in my prayers! :)

toss the scale - all it shows you is a number and the only person who should know it is your doctor - the scale doesnt show you whats your body fat percentage (which really matters a lot more than some number on a scale) and it doesnt show how fit you are and how much muscle you have.
