Sorry for the long answer, but I've done a lot of soul (and scriptural) searching on this one because I have a very close family member that is gay and many of my closest friends over my lifetime have been gay. This is probably THE single hardest things for me to deal with/reconcile in my head as a Christian.

I do believe the Bible is the 100% inspired word of the living omniscient God, but certain fundamental Biblical doctrines would appear to be in conflict where this issue is concerned - at least until you dig deeper.

1) The Bible says that God "knit you together in your mother's womb" indicating that He created us all WITH a purpose and ON purpose. For this reason, I can't believe that the desire you have for women is sin since it's been with you from birth more than likely. I know there are people rolling their eyes saying "it's a choice". I don't believe that people choose to be gay (at least most of them). That just doesn't make sense. I can remember as young as five, being sensitive to the fact that some of my classmates were "different". Maybe a boy was effiminate or a girl was butch, so I KNOW people are born this way. Plus, why would you CHOOSE this? Just not logical.

2) The Bible is also very clear that homosexuality is sin (along with a whole ton of other stuff that we all do every day).

So how he heck do you make sense of this apparent contradiction? You find that it's not a contradiction when you dig deeper into the verses that mention homosexuality and its eternal penalty. The Greek verb forms that are used in those verses indicate habitual repeated behavior, not inclination, not a one-time sin. The condemnation comes when you act upon your temptations day in and day out as a lifestyle.

I think we're all pre-disposed to some sort of sin. Some people are lazy, some are attracted to the same sex, some are mean, some are murderers, some are arrogant. I personally am pre-disposed to overating, lack of empathy, substance abuse and probably a few other things. These things don't become sins until I act upon them. I overcome them (most days) with the active power of the Holy Spirit in my life. Jesus was tempted mightily and he overcame it. The Bible says he was "tempted like we are, yet without sin". So what does this call us to do? Not give in to our temptations.

Does this mean that you need to live a straight life or be celebate? I think so and it's hard for me to say that, but that's what I believe. Does this mean that the overater has to fight temptation every day? Yes, absolutely. If they become obese, then that's habitual sin.

Another thing to think about is - any sin will separate us from a 100% holy god. We can be 99% perfect and it's not good enough. I don't know of a place in the Bible that tells us that one sin is worse than another one (the list of the 10 commandments maybe comes close). If all you did in your lifetime was to lie about something once, you've sinned (this is why we need a Savior and can't EVER be good enough to go to heaven - you can't work your way there). So when people judge you for your sin, they should look at their own issues first, because their sin is just as bad as yours and mine.

(I wonder how many obsese holier-than-thou people are reading this right now really PISSED OFF because I said they are just as sinful as a murderer or a gay person. Sorry, I didn't write the book. If you don't like it, take it up with Him.)

God bless you in your quest for truth and righteousness.

Ignorant people label things they do not understand. Rather than spending a little time to learn about something that is unusual, they tense up, block the unfamiliar path, and call it a Sin.
Or worse yet, they become obsessed with the oddity...they develop some kind of twisted desire to get closer to it...and unleash their private demons upon it.
Gay people have been around since the beginning of human existence; it's one of the many ways Nature hinders overpopulation.

The only true Sin is not looking in our own mirrors and admitting who we are.

Ignore it. While the Bible contains much wisdom, it is limited by the people who wrote it and the culture that they come from. It is a bit far-fetched to believe that they can be good arbiters of what is appropriate for all times and cultures or that they were free from personal opinion. If you believe that god revealed the Bible to men, it must still be admitted that those men were not fallible and that the same god would have given you a brain to use. I think it would rather be a sin not to use it.

I took my teenage son and his friends to a haunted house. He had to pee so I was sitting in the car and instead of using the bathroom he used the grass. As he came back a police officer was walking quickly behind him. He was going to issue a ticket for indecent exposure. as I was talking to the cop my sons friends were behind the officer making funny faces and mimicking his movements. it was just like a movie. Every time the officer turned around they were still as a mouse. I was trying so hard not to laugh. I tried to bite my tongue. But my giggles was out of control and the officer started yelling at me for being a poor influence but it didn't matter. I was beyond caring just cracking up at the situation ! In the end no ticket was issued and we moved on to the next haunted house with a good laugh. !!!!

It isn't a sin. The Bible was written down by men - flawed by their very nature. I doubt they were above putting their own two cents in. Our sexuality (I'm bisexual myself) is something that is how we were made to be. Calling it unnatural or a sin is like saying God makes mistakes. Don't forget the Bible also has warnings against eating shellfish and touching the skin of a pig (unclean) but how many people make a fuss about shrimp cocktail or football?

Its unfortunate for you that you have same sex desires. The truth is that it is considered a sin because GOD intended us to reproduce and not act on our lusts. It is the lust that is a perversion and sin not your sexuality. That is what people don't understand. When a straight person marries another they still have lust for others but they do not act on it. Maybe GOD wants you to become a nun. lol

It is not a sin don't worry about it. Sin was fabricated in order to control the masses. Homosexuality is caused by chemicals in your brain and there is nothing wrong with it. Don't let yourself become brainwashed by religion. Just live your life to the fullest because it is the only one you have.

It's not. It's always an individuals choice to live as they choose. Don't let other people make your decisions for you. Enjoy your life.

sweet mother - such hatred in the name of goodness-

I do not believe it is a sin, and neither did the enlightened Buddhist master I studied with.
Take heart, and let the rest go. You are good, and deserve to be loved. Period.

Forget this, the Bible does in fact condemn homosexuals. Forget it and just don't believe what the priests say. Isn't it God's love that you want, not theirs?
