We will be on the road 6 hours in 100 degree heat, taking 3 pans ( 9" X 13") of homemade fudge to a reunion, the car will be air conditioned, but we don't want soft melted fudge when we get there. We don't have a cooler, but do have a plastic 'tote' about the size of a cooler, it's not insulated. Any ideas on how to keep the fudge cool? I am afraid bags of ice will start melting, and with bumping around in the car, water will slosh into the pans.......

get some disposible pans, the same size and fill them with water and freeze. When you are ready to leave put them is plasitc bags so nothing leaks out and put one under and one on top of the fudge. that should work.

or you can just eat all the fudge before it melts. :)

If it's that important, buy a cheap cooler and use those plastic block filled with fluid you put in the freezer and then place in a cooler.

A similar alternative would be to get a sturdy cardboard box and line it with plastic - a large trash bag would work. Place a number of ziplock bags half full of water flat in your freezer. Right before you hit the road, pull the bags of ice from the freezer and pack around the fudge in the cardboard box. It would probably be a good idea to place the fudge in a Tupperware or Rubbermaid container to keep any moisture out.

Do not put the fudge in the trunk (which is not air conditioned). Try packaging ice in gallon freezer bags and wrap damp towels around each bag. Place the fudge between the bags. The cloth will absorb any moisture from the ice and still keep it cool. And make sure to keep the fudge out of sunlight.

If possible, when you arrive at your destination, stick the fudge in the freezer for a few minutes to firm it up.

Cooler with ice or those ice block things would be the best thing to use. Make sure the fudge isn't located somewhere where there will be a lot of sunlight hitting the area, like in the trunk. Also, as long as it won't be in the sun cover it in foil since foil tends to retain the cool or heat depending on what's wrapped in it.

Have a great reunion!

Buy a foam ice chest (cheap) and put the ice in zip lock bags on the bottom. If you are really nervous, find a source for dry ice- but you will need some kind of pad - cardboard box, heat pads, folded towel - on top of the dry ice, below the fudge as it is very, very cold.

I know you said you don't have a cooler but try going to a cheap store like target or dollar tree and seeing if they have inexpensive one.

Or if you have an ice pack(s) try putting that in a paper towel and putting it under or arond the fudge in your tote.

Buy a cheap foam chest in the market, and get some ice packs. Then leave it in the car.
