Bible Chrisitians are "famous" for saying, "this is what the Word of God says" and they do it. Yet, when it comes to Mary, the mother of Jesus, do they really live out the Word? In Holy Scripture we find:
Luke 1:41-42, 46-49
41 And it happened, when Elizabeth hear the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled witht he Holy Spirit. 42 Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among wome, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!"
46 And Mary said: "My soul magnifies he Lord, 47 and my spirit has rejoiced in God my savior. 48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; for behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed. 49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.
How do Bible Christians live out the Word of God to call Mary blessed?
P.S. No where does this passage say or imply to worship Mary (idolatry you know).

Biblechick43: I don't know where you learned that Muslims see Mary as the third person of the Trinity, they actually hold her in higher esteem than Bible Christians do (in practice, not just words), she is only second to Fatima, Mohamed's daughter (and no, that doesn't mean they worship Mary or Fatima).

Personally, I think Mary gave the best advise in all the Bible.
In John 2:5 she says "Whatever He (Jesus) tells you, do it!"

Mary was Chosen by God - I think to be an example to Women Not to be Worshiped!
Martha was her Cousin and I know that when I visited my sister (she was also pregnant) both of our babies 'Moved' when we greeted each other!
I don't understand it or know why - I do know that as these two little girls did become more than just 'Cousins' - they Love each other and where Bridesmaids of Honor for each other their weddings!
They are still Close today and with Me where Close with my sister until her death! They are Both Very Close to me and my husband! We have a beautiful Relationship and I would not change a thing!
My family and I try to Live the Word and as Good Christians! Jesus is our First Love with Us. We were all brought up Jewish but Now Jesus IS in our hearts! It's a Blessing that is Wonderful!
Be at Peace - Accept the Grace of God!
Take Care and God Bless!

We do say she's blessed, we just don't call her "The Queen of Heaven" or "the Co-Redemptrix" or "The Mediatrix of All Graces" or "The Immaculate Conception" . We do not pray the Rosary or believe in her perpetual virginity, sinlessness (what sinless woman needs a Savior? reference verse 47), or bodily assumption into heaven. All of those notions are not from the Bible, but are Catholic Church traditions.
I think she would be embarrassed by the way the Catholic Church has elevated her way above her rightful position as humble maidservant of God, the mother of Jesus to this super holy, adjunct to the Godhead.
Is it any wonder that Muslims think Christians believe that Mary is the third person of the Trinity?
It is good to honor her obedience and example, it is another to recreate her into something she wasn't/isn't.
Note: I did not say that Muslims believe that about Mary (they don't believe in the Trinity). But I have heard Muslim scholars say that Christians believe in a trinity consisting of God, Mary (his wife) and Jesus.

Not only is it idolatry, but the bible also says that one should never pray to the dead.
Saints are dead, aren't they?
I'm an atheist, so it really doesn't matter to me.
The fact is that there are more than 22,000 different sects within what is called "christianity." Even the same denominations have sectarian disagreements over what different scriptures really mean and how they should be interpreted.
Makes you wonder how an omnipotent God can screw up passing out his own message, doesn't it.
It is all a big story invented by men.

Self-discipline Let this be your motto and you be a shining example of Christ's love. Let God tend to the rest. Luk 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. -------------- Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Distingh between taking the scriptures literally (only), and taking the scriptures literally and basing things upon them. Example praying to Mary, may not be a literal only example we see. However, we do see a person asking the Mother (Bathsheba) of the King (Solomon) interceding for the person. The decision still being that of the King. So, praying to Mary to intercede to King Jesus does not bother me at all presently.

Mary is the virgin girl who gave birth to our Lord Jesus. This is her honor and her blessing and Christians acknowledge her as the mother of Christ. This position is an honor and a blessing, but we are not told to pray to her as a goddess or god. We are told not to make graven images of things in heaven or on the earth. Jeremiah speaks of the old evil queen of heaven who also wants a position with God. How many times must God tell us that He is a jealous God and not to put any gods before Him?

This is the funny thing about those who claim to believe the whole Bible and take it literally - they disagree with the hundreds of other groups that claim the same thing and are persuaded on the basis of the same allegedly infallible text to believe and practice very different things!
To be fair, however, we do not have passages that would support many of the Catholic doctrines about Mary - her being conceived without sin, her assumption to heaven, and the role she is believed to have in mediating prayers.

Mary was blessed! SHe gave birth to the Savior. However, that doesn't mean we should pray to her or make idols of her. I was at a Catholic wedding where the couple laid flowers below a statue of Mary. If that isn't idolatry, what is?
