If the accuser seems to be kind hearted and wants to share what he or she thinks is true for my benefit I will try to listen carefully and respond with my own views. If the bad comments continue and it doesn't look like anyone is going to benefit from the encounter I would just bid them farewell. Accusers who make aggressive statements without listening to your side are not worth your time. Smile and walk away. That is what I would do.

An opinion is an opinion simple as that. If you are confident in your opinion and can reasonably argue it then why should you care what others think. If you state sometning you claim to be a fact and you are wrong then that is different some people do get a bit tetchy. Any one who says your opinion is "crap" are merely stating THEIR OPINION !!!!!! I usually say. "I respect your opinion but we will have to agree to disagree". Also try to listen because you can learn from anothers opinion and adjust yours thro intelligent discernment. The only true ignorant person is the one who thinks they know everything.

While I freely admit that in the not so distant past I let such such things 'get to me', I have found that it is best to simply look upon 'put downs' in a larger perspective. While it would be foolish to ignore the stated thought, it is best to be objective about them...Does it have legs? What is the 'speaker's' perspective and\or knowledge of the situation commented upon? Is the opinion offered as a sincere gesture or instead possibly with less then noble intentions?
While all the questions I pose admittedly are difficult or impossible to answer, they seem worth pondering (but one must do so without pre-conceived concussions!)
In considering my own answer, and it's limitations, I would most humbly propose that it is probably best to just look unto your own heart wisdom and try to honestly assess the given subject. If you find the comment totally off in left field somewhere, then just 'let it go', 'write it off' and in so doing you not only avoid needless confrontation, but you also in a sense dis-empower the speaker..for their words only carry so much influence as you (as the recipient) choose to allow.
In essence...Folks who carelessly spout vindictives tend to be rather shallow souls, and thus are ones whom we should rather hold sympathy towards as opposed to revenge or opposition. Those who speak to us out of love and concern (even if done in a rude way) should be held close to our hearts and given due consideration. Blessings...

It hurts my feelings, I can't deny it, because I think my opinions are well thought out, reasoned, reasonable, and right. (Or I wouldn't believe that way!) If its just a disagreement I try to be reasonable and show the person the error of his ways and sometimes they succeed in convincing me of the errors of my ways. If its just an insult, I figure the person is an idiot who can't actually think, who just reacts, and that their opinion is garbage not worth caring about.

What I have learned is that IF someone asks for your opinion - you might give it, right? If they don't agree or like it, fine. The world will still spin.
Calling your opinion (your thoughts = you) stupid, silly or foolish is RUDE and childish.
Say adios - chimp.

Well, everyone is intitled to their own opinions. If someone insults my opinion then I try not to get upset, I just thank them for telling me how I feel.
