I mean seriously, there is no proof. Is it just some way to excuse yourself from doing heinous things? Or is it just an elaborate scheme to make money? Jesus seems like the ultimate hustler.

People can't stand the thought that they're here on Earth because of evolution and not because some higher power made them especially. Religion, in and of it self, is to make people feel content that their special, and not the by product of natural selection or evolution.Religion also posses as a way for people to 'console' themselves with death, because they won't really die if they're Christian, now will they? They'll go to the wonderful place where there's angels, harps, and people eating grapes.

It's also a way for people to redeem them selves instead of owning up to what they've done. For example, serial killers, rapists, molesters, gangsters, anyone can say they found God and it magically clears them of all of their past actions.

In other words, religion acts as a fall back for people to make them selves feel better if they've done something bad, to continue the illusion that we have some divine purpose instead of living and evolving, and that we're special in comparison to other creatures on Earth.

Religion is over rated, and people need to get out of the delusion that there's a higher reason for everything. There isn't, humans are here on earth, and our goal is to survive and make the perfect being. Stop with this whole, 'redeem me!' stuff, it's just hogwash and it makes one sound insane.

Edit:
Take doplhinchics' answer, for an example, people don't want to worry and fix this world, they just want it to go to ruin instead of working on making our current lives better.

Look, please get a grip. I understand how people might not believe in religion, but to call Jesus a hustler??? He didn't ask money from anyone, and he ended up being executed as a traitor to Rome for his beliefs. That doesn't sound like a scam artist to me. That's like saying Gandhi lived in poverty so he could get rich!

People use it to make money, but the majority of people who believe in any religion would do so whether they made money from it or not. And as far as there being no proof, there can never be proofs of most things in any objective sense. If you used that as a basis of judging whether something had value, you would have to toss out all literature, art, music and so on. The truth is people believe because it satisfies some need they feel. If it was just about making money, the poor would stop believing because it obviously isn't working for them.

Heinous things can be done by anyone and I am sure they will have an excuse ready. That applies to pretty much anyone.

I'm totally on the other side of the spectrum. I can't believe that individuals don't believe in God despite seeing so much beauty in nature and learning how complex our universe is and how detailed our own bodies are.

Also how do you explain that longing in each one of our hearts, or a void that seeks truth. How do you feel your void? We all do it some how. Some people try to fill it by money, sex, drugs, ambition, careers, relationships, etc.

All these things are nothing more than chasing after the wind. Only a relationship with a living God can fill that void in our lives that will give us a peace that surpasses all understanding found through Jesus Christ.

That's how I know and that's my proof.

I don't think it's a hustle, because I don't give my money to anyone. It also wouldn't really be in my taste to do heinous things. I am a Christian who doesn't participate in church, but I am devout & I have a deep, everyday relationship with God. I can't speak for other people, but I still believe because of the experiences I have had in my individual life. Surprisingly they don't have anything to do with church or what proof anyone has shown me. My belief is built on the changes that have happened in my individual life.

Ah utilitarian argument. mutually as faith would have been useful interior the previous. we've those days got here across that genuine looking people 9/11 all terrorists in contact have been emotionally good, has college educations, have been fairly wealthy. Had no historic previous of psychological instability. One hijacker grew to become into excluded as a results of fact he grew to become into emotionally volatile. They did this as a results of fact the belief of existence after death appeared genuine looking, they for sure have faith those issues. Delusions are no longer oftentimes a great concept. faith grew to become into probably useful interior the previous as a results of fact it provided some regulation and social amenities, mutually as additionally being autonomous. people could willingly purchase into it. at present we've far greater advantageous forms of those. Our regulation gadget is a lot greater advantageous, our charities are greater effectual. So the abuses (ie rape of toddlers for one) outweigh any cutting-edge cutting-part earnings of religion. faith would have been useful interior the previous, yet we are in a position to do each thing relgion does socially greater effectively via secular businesses, without the priority of delusional questioning, mendacity to toddlers, manipulation, indoctrination, and so on. So IMO the utilitarian argument fails horribly interior the three hundred and sixty 5 days 2009.

Everyone believes in something. You do too. What I mean by "believe" is that there is an element of faith in everyone persons life. Evolution, God or some other belief, it all comes down to faith. I hear people talk every day and I hear what they say. All of us face the same issues in life. Everyone searches for meaning in their life. We all want people to like or love us. God made us that way. Therefore, God can be the only one who fulfills that purpose. Because He does it without us having merit. You'll not find a human being that can do the same.

Religion isn't about proof, but faith. I too am surprised that so many people are religious fanatics. However, there is nothing wrong with this, especially when religion teaches a lot of morals. I blame the few closeminded, ignorant idiots not for their religion but because that's just how they are.

no, i don't believe in 'christianity' or 'religion'...i don't believe in 'politics' or 'philosophy', either...i believe in Christ...and it's not some way to excuse myself from doing heinous things...on the contrary, my faith has caused me to FACE my sins, admit responsibility for them...and to learn, by Christ's teaching and example, to become the kind of person who steps away from heinous behavior...it's a journey, and it's not always easy...but i'm not alone, and i'm not giving up
