If I had a dog, I'd DEFINATELY bring him out in the rain even if it gets the house messy.

There are many things you can do.

First, if you properly school the dog, you can do a few exercises at home.

Sit, drop, stand.

Sit-stay, drop-stay, stand-stay.

Come, fetch, seek.... those are all things you can do indoors.

Seek is a great game. You put the dog in a sit-wait position, move off, hide yourself somewhere and then call him/her. Give a big reward when they find you.

You can also hide a treat somewhere and ask them to seek.

Last not least. All my dogs have always had good rain coats (Weather-beater, or Drizabone), and we all rug up warm and put rain gear on, gum boots, and go out anyway.

Have fun! And remember: Always love your dog!

:)

My dog hates the rain and won't go out to do anything more than use the bathroom. I have a lot of toys for him inside and we play tug of war and other games. Another great thing to keep your dog occupied is any of the kong toys stuffed with peanut butter or other treats. My dog LOVES laser pointers and will chase the dot for hours.

Make sure you still take you dog outside for a few minutes to go to the bathroom , but don't stay out long or you or your dog could get sick. Since you won't be able to walk your dog, he/she will be pretty hyper. i would play with him inside in the biggest room of your house with some of his toys. that way he has some room to play with you and he gets exercise.

I play with them using the laser, it doesnt make much difference to me they have a huge backyard to go in and when its raining they can still go out and play. Usually they dont want to go out either so we all just stay inside and veg for the day. They dont like getting wet, I dont like muddy feet and bellies so it all works out for the best.. I wouldnt force them to take a walk if they dont want to anyway and when its raining they run out and potty as fast as they can and come in. There are 3 of them anyway so they amuse eachother most of the time or play with the toys.

I take an umbrella and walk my dogs and sing in the rain. Trust me dogs will not melt in the rain. They do what they have to do. Not if there is lighting going on, and you don't think it's safe to walk them. See if you can teach your dog to go in the garage. All the best;^)

I walk them anyway. If it is stormy really bad then it is just a quick walk but I make up for it by letting them run in a 3 acre field a few times a week.

You take them out anyways. What you want to do, especially if your dogs hate the rain like mine does, wait awhile until you can tell they really have to go, then walk them. They will go to the nearest tree and take care of their business no matter how hard it is raining.
