Even if you have no plans for a car of your own anytime soon, it's important to get a driver's license as soon as you can.

Your car insurance price is based heavily on your years of driving experience. If you wait to get one until you are 18 or 19, you will pay more for insurance that if you got your license at 16, even if you never regularly drove a car.

Just having your license for more years will make you insurance rates lower, and you will be very thankful for it in college, when you will ikely always be short on money.

Tell them you want to have a really long time to practice driving before you get a license, so the sooner you get the permit the better. Tell them that when you do get a license you want to help run errands for the family so it will take the pressure off your parents and they will have more free time. Tell them you plan to get a job and pay your own auto insurance.
