All my life i was brought up that god was real, and jesus was our savior, and we should pray, and go to church, i even went to catholic school for several years (though i have no religious affiliation) But i just cannot beleive. I have had a life as such that it seems that if there was a higher being, he is toying with me, having fun with my life. Whenever i get something nice, it is ripped away from me. This applies to most things in my life at one point or another. I consider myself agnostic, beleiving in SOME form of high power, weather it be ghosts, aliens, or something alltogether different, but i find it hard to beleive in a "god" that would let such things happen to generally good people. I also find it hard that some people can actually be rewarded for being wicked. My sister is a HORRIBLE person, she does drugs, drinks, is a homosexual, and does tons of other bad things, including pick on me ALL the time, but she has EVERYTHING. How can i accept a god that allows this?

I just cannot deal with it. I am a good person, i don't touch drugs, i am nice to everyone, and i have never even had sex, but i am rewarded with nothing but heartache, and torture. So i implore you, make me a beleiver. I am strongly moving to being an Atheist, i just can no longer beleive that such a holy being can possibly allow such things to happen. Why should i beleive in god?

Read these books and then decide for yourself!
C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity
Lee Stroebel Case for Christ and Case for faith.
When God weeps Joni Erickson Tada
Joni was 16 when she was paralyzed from the neck down. She admits she has had alot of different feelings about God but when she finally put her life in his hands things didn't get easier she just had more strength to deal with them. I don't know why there have been so many hard things in my life but I have to live with that.
Paul was beaten, shipwrecked, caned etc. and his faith may have been strained but it was not destroyed.
Job was left a diseased man with friends that sat and called him a sinner even though God had declared him the best man on the earth...
The only thing I can think of is that maybe by getting your like in order you can help the others of your family as an example and a person to help...
Here are a couple quotes that might help.
“I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God's hands, that I still possess” - Martin Luther
“God loves us the way we are, but too much to leave us that way” Leighton Ford
I am not what I ought to be;
I am not what I would like to be;
I am not what I hope to be.
But I am not what I once was,
and by the grace of God, I am what I am.

Believe in God and follow Jesus... there are no other paths that WILL work.

agnostic means that? sorry I didn't know that, only heard many people using it in here but really didn't know what it meant. you really sound that you have had a rough life and am sorry you have gone through it as well. I am far from having anything I have ever wanted, I have struggles in my life as well, I even have the same kind of sister who has or at one time had everything but she was a hateful (still is) person who thinks the world owes her something. Everything that she had has pretty much taken from her though, she is now in a wheel chair and still very hateful. I see the ones who do drugs and have everything as well. and me I have nothing to show for all I have done in my life. I am not complaining though I am happy with what I have. But most in important I have peace inside me that no one can take away. I have a promise for a better life after this life..what I have learned in life and hope it helps you as well, is that it is not God who has the contoll on how our lives turn out, God wants us to be happy, He doesn't cause us the problems we have, we have to realize this, we have a choose to be happy or unhappy, you say your a good person I really believe you are, I am a good person as well, I haven't much of anything and actually I really don't want much.. you may never have everything you want, but you if you would or will believe in God you would have the same promise as I do and everyone else who believes in Him does or has..try just believing in Him and get a personal relationship started with Him, you may start seeing things differently as well. God is not the bad guy that many people see's or thinks He is, He's really the good guy..Give Him a chance in your life please. will be praying for you as well. Joy & Peace..

Satan Blesses his servants too. Let the Word of God speak.
1Ti 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1Ti 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain
There is so much that you do not understand about life. God is the maker of all things. You should sit down and read the bible and pray for understanding. If you truley believe in the true and living God, there is only one. Read the bible and pray for understanding and knowledge. Read and take it for what it is and if you don't understand read it again. Use your common since minde. You can discern between real and unreal, well Jesus uses parables if you do not inderstand that is what his teaching will be to you because you do not want to understand. Once you know, than you won't have so many unanswered questions.

I grew up in a very familiar situation.
It's easy to feel unloved. God loves you so that he gives you the choice of free will. Satan will lie to people to make them only think they can get away with murder. If you do not give up you will be rewarded for your constancy with doing good.
The only unfortunate things about you is that you, like me, may have to learn the hard way ....God doesn't "toy" around with you. He's waiting for you to go to him. He wants you to knock on his door. You don't have to go to church or join any religion. Just devote yourself to God and Christ try to reach out and get to know them personally before you make any choices on giving up. Just believing in certain truths is not enough you have to reach out of your way and have faith. Remember it is much easier to deny and give up, but it's your will to go out just a little bit more out of your comfort zone to see all that you can have. The only one that can make you believe is yourself.

Dear Adam, God is not toying with your life . he does not toy with anyone. It is true that bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people . Shall we shake our fist at God and blame him ? No, not even my brother. Who are we to question anything that God does? Do not blame God.
Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? Isaiah 45:9
Now why do bad things happen? I don't know the answer to that for sure. But we do know this.. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
It could be that suffering to a certain degree may bring rewards later on. The best example of this is Jesus suffering & dieing on the cross so that all mankind might be made acceptable to dwell with God forever. Here is the extreme positive eternal life coming from an extreme negative temporary death . So it may be that God has a bigger and better idea and allows suffering for a season so that a greater good may be achieved in the future. Only he is able to foresee the future. So while it makes little or no sense to us , God knows what he is doing. We must trust God. Read the book of Job. God allowed Satan to kill Job's ten children. He allowed Satan to take all of his earthly poseesions. He allowed Satan to cause grievious boils to break out all over Job's body. But even though Job's wife told him to "curse God and die",( Job 2:9) Job never foolishly shook his fist at his maker.
But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips. Job 2:10
Now in the end Job received double of all that he had in earthly possessions. and he had 10 more children, which makes 20 he has in heaven so this was doubled also. Praise God!! So you see from these 2 examples Christ and Job, that suffering does bring good in the end. Is God awsome or what?
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Romans 11:33 -36
So if you Adam are suffering maybe you should examine yourself . Are you called according to God's purpose? From your statements above , I would say not. But you can be. You have a free will to come to Christ. You say "make me a believer " . Oh I wish I could. I can't . But you can! You must truly seek God with all your heart. If you do I guarantee you that God will reveal himself to you. He said so: (Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.)
I want to tell you I know from experience. I rejected God and lived in sin from 1951 to 1984. God let me suffer,but preserved me, knowing that someday I would come to him and be his servant . I could write a book of all the calamity that happened to me when I was serving Satan. When I sought him with all my heart I found him. And like Job I know my redeemer liveth (Job 19:25) I know for a fact that God is alive and well. How do I know? Because his spirit lives in me.(1 John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.)
If his spirit was not in me I wouldnt be writing this to you.
Oh Adam come to Christ . I beg you. He loves you and is standing with his arms wide open to you. He will not reject you. (John 6 :37 ...him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.) Dont harden your heart any more Come to Christ
In His love Cap'n Arlo
