elliptical is better because of the movement and its a lot more fun in my opinion. but they both get the job done :]

sharp pains just below the breast while exercising = stitch.
This is caused by a lack of oxygen being taken to the diaphragm and therefore the build up of lactic acid occurs which is what gives the pain.
To relieve the 'stitch' more oxygen is needed to remove the lactic acid as lactic acid is only removed by oxygen. To do this take a break to replenish the oxygen levels in the blood and the pain will subside.
Eliptical is best. reasons why;
It gives an overall body workout as all main muscle groups are used and worked
legs - quadraceps, hamstrings, gastrocnemius (calf)
arms - biceps, triceps, - including shoulders (deltoid muscle and trapezius)
Back - latissimus dorsi (the biggest back muscle),
stomach - abdominal
butt - gluteus maximus
the eliptical is a low impact work out, meaning that unlike the treadmill there is no 'shock' to the knees. with the easy motion that is used with the eliptical there is less chance of stress injury compared to the treadmill - less wear and tear on the cartilage of the knee.
Treadmil does use all of these muscle groups but not to the same extent as the eliptical and the arms are not used as well with the treadmil because they are only used with the motion of running whereas with the eliptical you need to use the arm and shoulder muscles. although saying that, the back muscles aren't used well when running on the treadmill either.
the arms and back get a better work out on the eliptical therefore the body burns more calories than it would for the same length of time on the treadmil.
Hope this tells you what you need to know, if it doesn't please tell me and I will do my best to make sure it does.

annoying to respond to because of the way you phrased the question. Neither are good for the abs, consistent with se, in case you recommend coaching your abs (the two require some center stabilization yet i does no longer say they prepare the abs annoying). in case you recommend "shed weight around your middle," then the suitable gadget may well be the only you may and could use extra, the only that isn't reason any discomfort or injuries, and the only you like extra. the two can furnish a brilliant work out -- it relies upon on which one you get extra out of. that's a subjective determination. in my view, i might opt for neither. i'm a dancer and that i burn extra energy from -- and likewise savour -- dancing. For others, it must be swimming. It relies upon on you. good success.

all cardio exercises (running, jogging, swimming, cycling, elliptical, rope jumping etc) burn fat all over your body - you cant target any specific areas because we cant spot reduce body fat - do them 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min).
its better to mix them - keep your body guessing and you will lose more fat.
the pain - dehydration - drink a couple glasses of water before exercising and drink a little every 10-15min.
