If you are a right wing republican type, then you'll hate it and probably see the UK as a pit of moral decline.....

However, if you're normal, then you'll soon get used to the fact that the UK is an easygoing place to be.
Drinking too much beer is good way to get started!! I know in the US this is frowned on, but over here it has made up our culture for centuries.

The UK is a much more secular country than the US with over 70% being atheist or agnostic. We tolerate ALL religions and respect peoples religious beliefs but we don't push it on people.

The service you get in shops mirrors how you act with the salesperson - if you're nasty to them, they'll be nasty back, however if you are polite and respectful then you will mostly get great service. The 'have a nice day' thing doesn't happen here!

UK people are like watered down versions of Simon Cowell - we all like to tell it how it is. No hype and praise but more realism and a down to earth attitude.

The weather is unpredictable and it will always rain when you least want it to!!

The UK is also very multi-cultural as it always has been, there are some people not happy with the sheer quantity of immigration taking place, but in my experience Iranian people live happily alongside Indian people and Indian people live happily amonst Jewish people and so on and so on.

Taxes are probably higher than in the US, but this probably reflects the fact we get free healthcare and other benefits so don't be too alarmed.

Don't start up a conversation with a stranger on a bus, they will think you are a nutter!!!
English people can be quite reserved in public situations, but once you know them they are honest, friendly and loyal.

Good luck!!

Well what is important to you. I would take London without a doubt, but the cost of living would be higher too. The reason I would pick London is because once you are there you can travel all over Europe by train, and I would get the chance to see many places. Not that the job is not important, but it would be easier to travel. I am a person that likes to travel. Now on the other hand, if you want to stay closer to home, take the Houston offer. It will be easier for you to go home on the holidays. The decision is yours. Good Luck.

It's like all the b/w films you see in USA guv - foggy with policemen running around blowing whistles whilst chasing criminals and avoiding double decker buses, then settling down for a cup of tea and some cucumber sandwiches.

Apply for a work visa and kick it abroad for a while before you committ. Gives you a great opportunity to check things out before you make the change.
