This originated with the belief that the menses were a sign of the curse God put on Eve when she and Adam were expelled from the Garden of Eden.

Many women do consider it a curse, though! LOL

The monthly period is often considered a curse because a lot of women experience pain during the process or have to take a lot of time maintaining cleanliness or both.

NOT "A" Curse, part of "The" Curse!!! Before Sin, Woman did not Ovulate just as a very young girl does not. After the Sin, (which was NOT HAVING SEX) God Started E.s' ovulation Cycle which now created fertilizable eggs & ended in the "Uterine Lining Sluff" called a "Period" which really refers to the length of "Time" of the entire process. It was originally called a curse because if you had your period it meant you were not pregnant. Remember that long ago people wanted big huge families and a woman was expected to deliver 8 to 10 children in her lifetime.

Imagine a woman wanting desperately to have a child, and every month here comes the blood. Hence, it's called a curse.

To men of course, it's not a curse, you guys don't have to give up swimming, camping without a handy bathroom, have cramps (sometimes pretty darn severe), take a plug with you whereever you go (just in case), listen to men gripe about women not being able to do things because its their time, bleed like a stuck pig every month, etc.. I'm sure every woman on earth would be more than happy to share it with you.

Would you like to bleed from your genitals for up to a week out of every month?

It's not actually a curse but because it is such a pain, figuratively and literally many woman consider it a curse.

Because it's about 3108 days of pain, bitching and bloating that women don't have control over. 3108 days when you'd rather shove a dagger in your abdomen than be "here," and when you seem to yell at people for no reason over the smallest things. Oh, and 3108 days when none of your clothing fits right. All so when you're twenty or thirty something you can pop out one or two kids... assuming you can have kids and you want kids.

30 years ago it was an intro to womanhood ... showing me that I was physically ready to have children. 15 years ago it was a blessing... we were working on having a family. Now ....it's a curse! I'm done, I don't need it anymore, it can't decide how often it wants to show up and for how long.... at this point in my life it serves no purpose but to irritate me!!!!! And my family when I am in the midst of a perimenopausal mood swing!

Because of the smell. Seriously(assuming your a guy), you try to live with that smell knowing you can only disguise it because it's impossible to get rid of. And you have it for about a week every month. Then there's cramps. Certain pills makes you drowsy and that for me makes me crabby but you're crabby anyways. And cramps are awful no matter if your period is light or heavy. And it gets worse with stress.
(and guys say women are weak.)

Edit: Alright after noticing what alot of Christians are saying I have something to add. Eve was tempted by the serpent so she got her period and pain during child birth. Adam was tempted by Eve. What did he get?
