I gave up as 99 percent of commercial ice cream uses bean gum or another additive instead of egg yolk as a stabilizer. This is for "shelf life" as bean gum lets it sit for months and egg yolk gives them only a couple weeks to sell it. I now only make my own
1 Pint heavy cream
1 quart half and half
1 cup milk
1/2 cup sugar
real natural flavoring of your choice

mix milk and sugar well to dissolve sugar

pour all ingredients into electric ice cream maker (if using fruits or nuts add halfway through making so they all don't sink to the bottom)

Follow directions with maker. Mine uses a crock you freeze first and that freezes the ice cream in about 20 minutes. No salt or ice required.

The best place to get really great ice cream is.... our house. Make your own. Use a custard base and let our imagination run wild with flavorings. You can keep the base separate without freezing for several days in the refrigerator.

For a custard base you can find a good recipe here

If you happen to be lucky enough to live in Hawaii I highly recommend Tropical Dreams. If you live near Philly Bassetts is great also

Oberweis. Try the peanut butter chocolate ice cream, if those flavors interest you. They have an ice cram parlor, and you can also buy pints, quarts, cakes and ice cream sandwiches to take with you.
