Most of the time I ride the mountain bike on paved street but once in a while need to get over some dirt hills. And I want tires that almost never go flat. The latter has actually been a trait of my existing tires - they've been on there for over a year and no flat.
Please don't answer "get a road bike". Thanks.

Puncture-resistant tires are very popular for MTBs.. Brands like Specialized Armadillo, Continental Snake Skin, etc. all have a kevlar belting to resist punctures.
I got a hybrid bike that uses 26-inch mountain bike wheels, and it has 1.5"-wide Armadillo Nimbus slick tires on them. Puncture-resistant and great for city/pavement riding.
I also got a mountain bike which has 1.95" Armadilloes on them. It's good for pavement and light off-roading.

you need touring tires. they're wide like mtb tires but have a tread pattern similar to road tires and stand up some pretty good wear and tear. don't forget to set yourself up w/ some tire liners that will help puncture proof your ride. if you're really serious about the no flat thing, you should look into getting some tires that are made w/ a kevlar mix.

Continental makes a couple of hybrid tires. They are not ideal for either but work for both.

There are some semislick tires, which have a knob design that is not too heavy and could work.
