Everyone else dealt with the hamburger-meat-as-taco-meat question. When I make tacos, I like to use shredded beef. When I do that, I first cut the beef into approx. 1 inch cubes. (I generally use something like tri-tip.) I then brown the cubes on all sides in a frying pan and put the cubes in a slow-cooker with the taco seasonings and some liquid to taste, and leave them to cook on the low setting for 8-9 hours while I'm at work. When I come home, the meat has been cooked to the point where it will easily shred. I use a slotted spoon to take the meat out and I shred it with a fork. I then take the liquid that is left in the slow cooker and take the fat off the top as best I can. I then put the liquid in a skillet with the meat and reduce over low heat until it has the consistancy that I want. I then use this for tacos.

Chop it up while it is browning in the pan. Also remember to drain the grease off of it after you are done browning the meat. Something else you can do it rinse the meat off with warm water to get the excessive grease off, this is for someone who is really trying to cut some calories.

I just chop it up in the pan (assuming you are using burger) - just use the spatula. I have seen some higher end tacos that take a nice grilled flank steak and carve slices off for the taco

For Taco Meat I use ground meat.... so no need to chop it up!
I brown it in a skillet then rinse in hot water in a colander. I then put it back into the skillet and add my seasoning according to the seasoning packet's instructions.

I just use a wooden spoon to separate the meat once it's in the pan.

Chop it up as it is browning in the pan, and don't forget to drain the grease when it is done. Good Luck.

It is much easier to use a metal spatula and dice it or chop it while you're cooking it. Add a little bit of water and you're good to go.

I just use ground beef and fry it up in tiny pieces, drain any grease and then add seasoning. I then bring it to a small boil and then let it simmer for 10 mins. at low heat.
