I am interested in installing a large fish tank at my house. Before I do, since the tank and all associated materials will combine to weigh nearly 2000 pounds, I want to have someone inspect the area in question to verify that it can support that kind of weight. Who would I call to do something like that?

Just about all things structural in a building need to be observed or inspected by a structural engineer.

If you have already chosen a contractor they may have a consultant they regularly use or they can refer one. You can always check the yellow pages for structural engineers. The engineer may required the specs for the tank and stand.

Good luck, enjoy the fish!

Perhaps a licensed contractor or your home owner's insurance should be able to send someone out ( you probably need to talk to them before you do this anyway).
