Hey, dont listent to the others, they are plain wrong. the law doesnt go into effect until 7/1/08 as you specified.....
If you where cited for that particular offense go appear in court. They should throw it out due to the law not going to effect.
But i do have to caution you, that if you attest this ticket and the officer attest to the fact that you might have been driving in a wreckless manner than, then you might face a charge of reckless driving.....
Wait until the courtisy notice comes in the mail, and see exactly what the offense is alleged....

You can not get a ticket for a law that is not in effect. I hope someday to see a law for "Public Display of Stupidity." That would be awesome and provide such a catch all for the police.

Most jurisdictions can cite you for "Failure to Use Due Care & Attention" or some similarly worded offense. That would do nicely if the cop felt that you were not paying enough attention to the task at hand before the specific law against it kicked in.

Don't worry so much about the ticket. Be more concerned about causing an accident and possibly murdering someone through inattentiveness.

That law has been in effect for a long time. You wouldn't be able to if it wasn't effective yet. But it is.

No, but if you are weaving and driving poorly, you can be nailed for careless driving.
