Pretty much that there is no higher intelligence than man and no higher power than say gravity. By excluding religion it is thought to be a sort of religion or belief system. I could see how a person could be thought of as being their own god if that's their highest source. As in the phrase, their god is their belly. I think of religion as being religious about something. That way Communism was a religion. Science being there highest power and they where certainly religions about it. You can make a religion out of anything. It takes some beliefs to exclude, say psychology, as false. Done religiously, it's a belief system. Worshiping the sun and worshiping money have similarities. Everyone has their own religion that may or may not include some group outside them. I certainly believe some people have a religion they call "science" but it really isn't science or logical. Taking religion out of the schools is like making science the only standard. One tenth of the books in the library are excluded and one whole discipline is omitted religiousy, hence secular humanism, book banning. Sounds familiar.

Humanism is the glorification of self(man) Secular humanism is a humanist philosophy that upholds reason, ethics, and justice, and specifically rejects the supernatural and the spiritual as warrants of moral reflection and decision-making. Like other types of humanism, secular humanism is a life stance or a praxis focusing on the way human beings can lead good and happy lives (eupraxsophy). The term was coined in the 20th century to make a clear distinction from "religious humanism". A related concept is scientific humanism, which the biologist Edward O. Wilson claimed to be "the only worldview compatible with science's growing knowledge of the real world and the laws of nature

Secular humanism
Secular humanism is the branch of humanism that rejects theistic religious belief, and the existence of the supernatural. It is often associated with scientists and academics, though it is not at all limited to these groups. Secular humanists generally believe that following humanist principles leads to secularism, on the basis that supernatural beliefs cannot be supported using rational arguments and therefore all traditionally religiously associated activity must be rejected.
When people speak of humanism in general, they are usually referring to secular humanism, as a default meaning. Some secular humanists take this even further by denying that religious humanists qualify as genuine humanists. Others feel that the ethical side of humanism transcends the issue of religion, because being a good person is more important than rejecting supernatural beliefs.
Some secular humanists prefer the term Humanist (capital H, and no adjective), as unanimously endorsed by General Assembly of the International Humanist and Ethical Union following universal endorsement of the Amsterdam Declaration 2002.
secular just means anything other than the church. (ie the devil)

SECULAR Humanism has no beliefs in the way the word is most often used here, since it's not a religion.

I could be wrong...but it sounds to me like secular humanists are more than likely atheists who believe that there is no higher power than themselves. They don't believe in a higher power controlling their lives. They believe they control their own paths and they don't owe any acknowledgement to a higher deity. They believe strongly in the evolutionary theory...that kind of thing.
If I'm wrong...please let me know. Seriously
