Ahteists, as a group, have an extremely loose, inclusive definition: one who lacks belief in God or gods. But remmeber, lacking belief in a God isn't always belief that God doesn't exist.
If I were to define myself personally, I would need to state emphatically things I am both for and against for anyone to get to know me. I am for freedom of religion. I am against Fundamentalist Dogma. I'm also against racism, sexism, homophobia, the Iraq war, torture, and a million other things.
But to define who is in the atheist club: anyone who lacks belief in God or Gods.

No, atheists are not defined by what they are against; they are defined by who they are as a people. Not all atheists are the same. Buddhists are atheistic by definition, but are quite spiritual.
Atheism is merely the philosophical view that one will not attribute to a god that which may have a natural cause. As yet, we've seen nothing in nature that requires the existence of a god, and thus there is no reason to assume that such a being literally exists.

It depends on who is defining me. To hard-core Christians, I have no room here for all the negatives that can be used to describe me (whether these descriptions are true or not). To other Atheists, I'm bound to be described by what I do or how I act, since religion obviously isn't a factor with them when they are dealing with another Atheist.
I define myself as a human being.

Atheist is a definition which designates what I do not believe in, but I prefer the term 'humanist'. It says 'atheist' on my profile page in order to clear up any possible misunderstandings.
Mostly however I'm just defined by bein' disgustin'.

We're not defined by any of that. We're defined by our actions and words, not the imaginary things other people believe in.
Oh and I'm not against god I'm just educated enough not to believe in such myths.

I'm not against anything. People are just trying to find a way to feel safe and content. Often the ways they find don't actually work. Which is why we need to learn from each other.

I'd rather be defined by what I do, but if I'm talking about religion (which is a hobby of mine), I can't very well define myself by a religious tradition, can I?

Theists are defined by a particular characteristic and atheists are everyone else.
For example, soccer players are people who play soccer and "a-soccerplayers" would be everyone else.

I am defined by what I think and what I do. It is the whole package.
Like I've told many many people.

REBELS are defined by what they are against.
Athiests,on the other hand, simply want the Jehova's Witnesses and the Mormons to just STOP KNOCKING ON OUR DOORS!
After all...I don't go knocking on THEIR doors trying to get THEM to smoke and drink and listen to rock an' roll!
