BTW means by the way. It's slang that came from using the internet and IM.
ie literally means id est in Latin, which translates into "that is." It's often used instead of "for example" although that is not its true meaning. It should really be used to say something in a different way (ie. to rephrase part of a sentence).

"BTW" in Dutch means "Belasting op Toegevoegde Waarde" and is the same as the UK-English "VAT" : Value Added Tax. In Internet-jargon it usually means "By The Way".

The form "i.e." is usually the abreviation of the Latin "Id Est" ("That Is") , meaning "for example". IE can mean "Internet Explorer", "Eire" (Irelan), or "Indo European".
