I was wanting to know if a Blu-ray disk would play in a regular DVD player. I plan on buying a couple movies that will be avaliable on Blu-ray and I was wondering if it played like a regular DVD because I don't want to have to get a special player.

Nope, sorry if you buy a blu-ray disk you will have to buy a blu-ray player. Blu-ray disks have the information packed tighter and the older DVD players aren't able to read it.

Blu-ray disc's are so called because they use a different frequency LASER (in the Blue - Purple spectrum). The standard dvd players have a different beam, so will be totally unable to play them.
