Two things...

1- This is a cultural practice and has NOTHING to do with Islam. Islam forbids such practices.

2- Wikipedia is NOT a reliable source for ANY information.

Edit: Apparently Bill cannot handle being told that he is not completely right in his accusations here. I've gotten 2 rude emails from him basically telling me I don't know about my own religion and that Wikipedia is a good source for such things. Sorry, but it's FULL of mistakes.

Addition: Bill sent me a third rude email, then blocked ME! How funny is THAT? NO Bill, this issue does NOT keep me awake all night because I know the truth. I am sorry you cannot accept the truth from someone who actually knows and practices Islam.

One last thing Bill... look at Wikipedia... it tells you who other religions also practice this (even Christianity) and it also says this... "Although labeled Sunna by Islamic advocates of the practice, most Muslim clergy oppose all forms of female genital cutting as it is viewed as a social custom, rather than a religious practice. " Further reading will support this. I don't encourage using Wikipedia as your only source of information, but you insist it is accurate, so why don't you believe THIS????

God bless you Bill.

Yes, I have two non practicing Muslim friends. The do follow the Islamic guidelines of not eating pork and non alcohol etc. But they do not pray five times a day as commanded. But have come across many non practicing Muslims in my life and they usually become mature and take Islam seriously as they grow older. EDIT: To: Anonymous with the TRUTH: You telling any Muslim that they are not a Muslim because they are a non practicing Muslim is a judgment upon them. You are pretty much judging they telling them that they are not a true Muslim. You are no one to judge.

Read Waris Diri's book, Desert Flower. It describes the whole thing. Yet another barbaric way of dis-empowering women by a bunch of sicko males with inferiority complexes and a lot of extremely thick women accepting the status quo. Makes me sick to even think about this horror and the fact that it still continues. Wake up people!

People must be able to distinguish culture from tradition. Islam would not encourage such a thing because it goes against it's teachings. In Islam woman have the same rights as men to be satisfied sexually. If you remove the organ that creates sexuall satisfaction and stimulation, you would be violating the teachings.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) further stressed the importance of spouses paying attention to this important area of their marital life. He said that when a wife refuses to cooperate with her husband in fulfilling his sexual needs, she is guilty of a major offense, whereby she may incur the wrath of Allah. The Prophet's statement is not intended to mean that sexual fulfillment is a one-way street, for Islam stresses the fact that a wife has the same right to sexual fulfillment as her husband; that is why the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted women the right to leave a marriage that is sexually unfulfilling.

True, Islam is a vile religion, but this is not related to it. It pre-dates Islam and also goes on in countries that are traditionally Hindu.
