I have the same problem with my Sheltie/Collie. I'm from a chinese family and he use to get Chinese food every night. Lots of rice. It was a recipe for obesity and fatness. I know its going to be tough at first but you just need to lay the dog food out. The dog won't want to eat it, but he will when you're done with your food and when he realizes that its the only thing he has left. Beggars can't be choosers. The dog won't let himself die. Eventually, he'll get use to this routine.
On what type of food. My vet recommends Science Diet. It's premium dog food but its better. She said that stick with the same ingredients no matter what the market price the ingredients are. For the other dog food companies, many tend to change their ingredients (quality) depending on which ingredients are the cheapest at the time of production. This is bad for the dog because the diet is going to keep changing.
On how much to feed is the key to the diet. Look at the instructions on the back of the dog food packaging. Start feeding less, gradually. When they get too skinny, feed them more. Now, you just teeter back and forth when you feed them. This was the trick that some breeders told me about and it works. You just have to vary it either more than the recommended servings.
Since you have two, seperate them when they eat. So the fatter one won't be able to eat from the skinny's servings.

Answer Eating cat food probably won't hurt your dog, though it's best that he doesn't eat it all the time. Cats and dogs require different diets. Cats are pure carnivores, meaning they typically eat nothing but meat, while dogs are omnivorous, meaning that they eat some plant materials along with their meat.
here r some tips!
Cat diets are made primarily of meat and meat products, so in the long run they can be too rich for dogs and can cause digestive problems. They are also denser in calories than dog diets, so they can lead to obesity in dogs. Because of the additional fat and calories, cat food often tastes better to dogs than dog food does, so you may have to keep an eye on your dog to make sure he doesn't indulge in the kitty kibbles.
By the way, while cat food is generally okay for dogs, dog diets lack essential nutrients that cats need to stay healthy, so cats can't live on dog food. Overall, it's safest to feed your pets the kind of food formulated to be healthiest for their specific species. (Ferrets may be the exception. They are the only pets other than cats that are entirely carnivorous, which is why ferrets can live on cat food.)hope i helped!

Science Diet is good for your dog. My dogs eat it a lot. They love it. Though, it depends on the dog. If your dog likes Science Diet that's great, but there's a chance they may not like it. If so, you can search on the leading brand of dog food, (I don't have it in my head at the moment.) If your dogs are used to table food, my dogs are too. The solution is to NOT to give your dog table food, and make sure when you're done you put the plate in the sink. (I usually forget to put my dishes in the sink, and my dog would jump on the table and eat the food!) I hope this helps.
Love,
doglover

I have a beagle mix, and he is also somewhat overweight. My neighbor who is a nurse and has been working and training dogs her whole life always gives a helping hand. She told us to mix in green beans with our beagle's dog food. My dog loves to eat green beans, and he gobbles up his food right when I set it on the ground. The green beans in the food will help dogs lose weight. I also am replacing my dogs treats with sliced carrots. Although these foods still seem like table food they are healthy for dogs, and my dog really enjoys eating them.
I hope this helps!

You should never feed your dog table food. It causes dental, liver, obesity and stomach problems later in life. Nevermind the picky eating problem you have now, and begging.
They will have to get used to it, or put white rice with it.

Actually dry dog food is lower in fat and good for dogs. He may not eat it right away,,but if he gets hungry enough, he will.
