In the western world the media is an important tool for broadcasting the meaing of Islam. unfortunately all we see are the nutcases who want to kill everyone who is not a muslim and try and force sharia law. In the UK some Islamists are trying to enforce a different culture by evil zealous protests. They can't seem to get in into their skulls that Islam is a culture that does not belong in the western world. Never has never will. Obvoiusly they would not get away with this in an Isalmic country, and I can see Islam getting a really bad name all over the world. Everything seems to be an insult to them. Christians on the other hand, when their religion is insulted they look the other way. Turn the other cheek as Jesus said which is the correct way - don't listen to what others say about Islam - All peaceful muslims should hold a world peace day and let the fanatics know they are wrong - By the way anytime we see protesting its always men

Hello,
History was compulsory in my school days so we covered Islam quite well since it changed the world from the 6th century onwards.
I know and knew quite a few people of the Islamic faith throughout my life and had many discussions. I have a copy of the Koran at home and many books like the Idiots Guide To The Islamic faith through to several books on Islamic history by Prof Bernard Lewis; especially after 2001.
I think I have a pretty good idea on what it is all about and realize many people haven't a clue about the religion.
I have always been treated very well; almost like a king at times by Muslims. I respect what they believe and vice-versa.
Regards,
Michael Kelly

They believe in total surrender to the will of God.
They don't eat pork or drink alcohol.
In December they won't eat anything until the sun goes down.
All Muslims should if possible make a pilgrimage to Mecca.
They need to spread a carpet or small rug several times a day and face east (towards Mecca so maybe in Asia it's west?) to pray
Giving alms to the poor brings blessing on you and/or it's your duty.
That's all first hand experience. Everything else I know is from the media.
I have tried very hard but still do not really understand what motivates them at the deepest level.

What I know about Islam I learned from studying on my own and asking other Muslims to help clarify issues that I wasn't sure of. I learned the TRUTH and realized how inaccurate the media truly is. I reverted on May 4.

It all made me read the Quran and looked up some history and things. I read that Mohammed said that the name of God was in the book of Job and it was Jehovah at the verse cited. I thought that was hard to believe. I heard many in the Mid-East don't like American very much and thought that maybe Ben Ladin's acts were his response to the attitudes of the "nice" Muslims and Bush is probably the result of nice Christian attitudes, so what we feel, say and think does count. It's too bad we can't celebrate our similarities instead of forever harping on everyones differences. What a bummer.

well i used to work in a school that was 95% muslim and i've heard and seen some pretty scary stuff. like a kid being taken to pakistan to be 'exorcised' because she had behaviour issues, 15 year old girls after being brought up in england being whisked off to pakistan to marry some guy they never met and live in a country they don't know. mosque leaders hitting kids with sticks as part of their 'education'. families disowning members because of some slight on thier honour such as dating someone of the wrong caste, kids being brainwashed into believing that all this is ok.
don't get me wrong, i have nothing against muslims as individuals. i loved the kids i worked with and most of the muslim adults were cool people too but the religion and some of the culture leaves a lot to be desired. it's serious brainwashing like any other organised religion.

That islam follows the God of Abraham
and was divided in two groups due to succession of mohomet. Sunni & Sheite (spellings vary)
Also that Mecca was the trading place of universalism.
Also that Jesus is considered a prophet.
I've heard a lot, but I've researched a lot on it too.

Studied Islam from every angle I humanly could. As a matter of fact I still have my "Sound Vision" catalogs as well as a few other resources (ICNA and ISNA) for learning Islam from an Islamic perspective. Why?

I don't care what the stupid media says, it's all lies anyway.
The Holy Quran is the best, true source of information about Islam.
