my boxer is almost ten months old but he's so stubborn. he has his moments where he'll listen but there are times he acts like he cant hear/ understand me and i know he does. his brother was bought by my aunt and he used to be stubborn too but her boyfriend got him into shape. is the boxer breed just naturally stubborn?

I have to say that boxers in my opinion are pretty stubborn dogs, however said that, although all boxers will share certain distinct breed characteristics its important to remember that even two dogs of the same breed even from the same litter can have wildly different personalities. I found my boxer quite difficult to train, perhaps this was not because she was stubborn but because she was very excitable and thought everything was an opportunity for a game. I must admit though sometimes she did have a tendency to selectively pretend to be deaf when it suited her not to do something especially when she was having fun. I think you have to be relatively firm with boxers but not overly so, enjoy their natural exuberance because truly they are like no other breed in their humanness and personality

No my Boxer is 1 1/2 years old and he learns very quickly. We didn't even NEED to teach him how to sit, stay, or come. When we got him he already knew that. The only thing he had a hard time learning was potty training and to walk good on a leash. He already knows about 50 tricks. Not all boxers are. But I do know a lot of stubborn boxers!

Boxers are not Golden Retrievers. The best Boxers are capable of learning a great deal, but they have an independent mind of their own and are not pushovers to raise and train. Many Boxers are very stubborn. Some are dominant (they want to be the boss) and will make you prove that you can make them do things. You must show them, through absolute consistency, that you mean what you say.

They can be stubborn. I've had mixed experiences with boxers. I've met some friendly, easy going ones and some very stubborn dominant ones. In one case, two came from the same litter and both were being trained the same way. One was so difficult that the family that adopted it (which was very experienced with training dogs) rehomed it because it was rough and biting their kids - it needed a household with no kids. It's brother from the same litter was a docile family dog.

My boxer was very stubborn until he got older. They tend to act like kids, always wanting to play, chase something, etc. Boxers tend to mellow out as they get older, but still mine is 12 years old, and still likes to play and chase squirrels, just for not long periods of time now!

Dogs are a lot like people. They each have their own personality. The most important thing is consistent training. They have to understand that YOU are the alpha dog and what you say goes. Every TIME!
Contact a professional trainer and enroll in a training session. A professional will be able to show you the best way to train your dog and how to deal with difficult situations.
Good Luck!

Hahaha The Stubborn Boxer. He does something wrong and Ill holler at him... he will sit straight up.. spin around while still sitting and give me his back. I can see him peek to the side to see if Im still there and turns all sound off in his mind. He's such a stinker, but he's always forgiven.

No, they're not stubborn. They like to CLOWN around. They think everyone is playing a game with them. They get distracted easily.
