Losing weight is all about burning more calories than you take in. Short answer, if walking is the only thing that you're going to do differently, and you walk fairly fast, you could lose about a 1-2 lbs. per week, so it's possible to lose about 10-12 lbs. in that time frame.
Here are some other things to consider:
1. The intensity of your walking - it should be at least about 4mph to burn fat.
2. Your diet- are you going to change anything? You will see more results if you watch calories/fat content and eat healthy.
3. Any other forms of exercising that you already do or don't do can affect the amount of weight loss. For instance, if you're adding weight lifting, you may not see weight come off by looking at the scale, but you'll notice you look and feel better and your clothes fit better, or fall off! And, if you're already fairly active, you may not see much difference, but your body will still thank you for the extra effort. Or if you're a couch potato and this new work out will shock your body, you may see even more results!
Walking is one of the healthiest, easy, stress-relieving exercises out there and best of all it's FREE! I would advise you to invest in a good pair of shoes too, that will make sure you're body has the right support and you won't get sore. Good luck!! I've lost a lot of weight just walking consistently!

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

You say you want to lose 40 pounds, so I'll just assume you weigh like 180 lbs. A person weighing 180 lbs, walking, 3.5 mph, level, brisk, firm surface, walking for exercise: 94 calories burned in 30 mins. You subtracted 100 calories, so that's a total of 194 calories. Assuming you are now in a deficit of 194 calories, you'd lose a pound every 18-22 days. I'd honestly try to cut like 200-300 calories per day if possible.

Depends on how rigorous your walking routine is. However, walking 30 minutes twice a day is one of the best ways to take off weight. Just remember that you have to burn more calories than you take in! I know a lot of people who exercise like this, but continue to eat junk food, candy, etc. and - surprise, surprise - they don't lose any weight even though they're exercising.

You have to run or walk 35 miles to burn a pound of fat. The best way is to eat less and keep on walking.

Your diet is more important than your walking. So the answer is, it depends on what your diet looks like.
