On a global scale, one person can do nothing. However, on a community scale, one person can do much. I know this might be a little bit too "new age-y" but I firmly believe that if you go out of your way to help someone else, that comes back to you. Not only that, but the help you give someone else keeps going out. So the answer is, do as much as you can with as much as you have. I know that doesn't give you a specific "plan of attack" but it's a start. There are PLENTY of people out there that need help. All you have to do is open yourself up to wanting to help and then get out there and help. Look in the phone book under "organizations" and volunteer. That's the easiest "foot in the door" approach. I have found if you truly want to help, opportunities will make themselves known to you. But you gotta get out there and do the footwork first. Good luck!

The abuse isn't really increasing, at least not per capita. We just have more people and we've become better at witnessing and reporting tragedy to the media.

it doesn't needopen minded people it needs people open to action. there are more than enough people to look around and say "This is terruible someone needs to do something" But I have long lived with a phrase "If it is to be it is up to me"

I'm not sure it is. We see it more because we now look for it and not turn a blind eye.
Alot ot this used to be considered a "family's problem" now is is societies problem.
