thanks for you input thus far. a little more backstory, he also has a 2 year old daughter from a previous relationship, and he and i have been raising our daughters together since they were infants, their other parents aren't involved in their lives. he's actually a wonderful father to both of them, and we always try to treat them with equal love and affection.

Your fiance's dream is disturbing in it's imagery, but harmless. Bearing in mind that dreams are about the individual who dreams them, not the images of the dream, on the whole I'd say he's probably feeling anxiety about the role of fatherhood and whether he will be any good at it. Your daughter's presence in his dream probably represent's his ability as a parent, and that her hand falling off means he's worried that something embarrassing will happen (Kind of like teeth falling out or being naked in public) and it will be his fault. . Again, only he can be sure of the meaning.

Here's some info from a dream dictionary - but remember, dreams are very personal, and it's more about what the symbols mean to you.

"To dream of your hands, represents your relationship to those around you and how you connect with the world. Hands serve as a form of communication. In particular, the left hand symbolizes your graciousness and feminine, receptive qualities. And the right hand symbolizes masculine, active attributes. If your hands are injured, then it denotes an attack on your ego. Your dream may also reflect anxieties about losing touch with him/her or that you are drifting apart."

Notice that your daughter wasn't in any pain, but you were both freaking out... so perhaps if a situation happens with your daughter, it's wise to pay attention to how SHE is, and not react to it too much.

It depends which hand it is. The right hand represents a person's or child ability to exercise their authority. So, if her right hand fell off, it means she has the ability to do something's but she chooses not to, which is bad. If it is her left hand. The left hand represents doing things which are immoral and bad. The worse the condition of the hand, the worse the mindset. Or to put it plainly, if her hand fell off then her mindset is really bad in a certain area.

it means this, simply: he is subconsciously concerned about their relationships, (future, romantic) and he thinks she will get hurt.
The dream indicates that she will get engaged, and possibly married, but when this falls apart, she will turn to the two of you for support. And you will be more affected than she by the breakup.
