Hey brother, I am a Christian and I really don't think any person can honestly say they are a Atheists. They might be trying to convince themselves of it, but they haven't convinced me. You see we are all created by God. God created us in His own image, so God is spiritual and that makes us all spiritual. I have talked to people that tell me they are Atheists and after speaking to me for a while, they realize they are not only lost with out Jesus.

I am more of an agnostic than an athiest but one reason to care about the Bible is negatively, Christians are always trying to teach the Bible in place of science in science classes, like saying Evolution is a religion but Creation "Science" is a science so it should be given equal weight in a biology class. Here's a question for you, say you have the misfortune to get a serious disease and you need a doctor, do you want a doctor who got his degree at a Christian university where he got no grounding in real science, or do you want a doctor who actually understands how the body works because he studied real science? And while we're at it, the Bible makes it abundantly clear that the world was created only 6,000 years ago (if you can interpret a "day" to mean a million years, forget trying to claim you believe in the Bible!) so how can you possibly consider putting 150 million year old petroleum into your car? In fact why even have a car? The Bible says you should be riding a donkey, go get a donkey if you believe in the Bible.

Atheists aren't the ones obsessed with the Bible ... the religiously devout are obsessed with the Bible.
Perhaps you're a little bit confused?
Frequently atheists and agnostics will quote from the Bible to illustrate inherent contradictions. All we are doing is trying to show you the logical (or more to the point, ILLOGICAL) implications of your religious text and belief system.

Because Christians use it to try to create legislation, cultural norms, and define national, regional, and social morality. It's only prudent to have the proper source materials to refute this idiocy in a debate.
If you were an atheist, you'd pay just as much attention as we do simply because the bible is a major weapon in the continuing skirmishes to maintain freedom of religion.
On a more personal level, I studied the bible heavily when I was having my religious crisis. Like many atheists who have a lot of biblical knowledge, I'm an ex-Christian. It was the bible that really did my Christianity in. In an effort to get closer to a god I was losing faith in, his scriptures alienated me further.

For the Bible is the source of all fundamentalism. What the Bible says must be right is the promotion of total acceptance without question, and the intolerance of those who are against this viewpoint.
Quotations from the Bible adds to this too, basically stating that this is the one true viewpoint and all others are wrong.
It is not that we care about its origins or what it is, it is that it suffocates the ability to reason and debate - it is detrimental to modern society's progress.

I'm not an atheist...but, am concerned about people interpreting each scripture literally.
If our political leaders claim to be fundamentalists, that scares me as they will be governing based on their opinons of interpretations of scripture...
I am concerned about the vigilante justice system we have...and the hate mongering that goes on by fundamentalists that use their Bibles to justify their hatred and persecution of others etc...
Remember the same Bible we use today, is the same Bible that our forefathers used to justify slavery and "keep women in their place"...and when interpreting the Bible literal...there are verses that support both positions....
So, I can understand their concern with fundamentalist Christians and the way they use their Bible.

Atheists read the Bible as they would any popular book. Unfortunately, when you find it is a bunch of lies, contradictions and distortions, with only a bit of truth here and there, you can't help but be disappointed.

they bible was dictated to men who may have been idiots without a printing press or guns or cars or tvs or condoms or any of the modern day stuff. but they might have had a radio in order to hear those voices dictating the bible, but that was probably only one angels story, today there are thousands of angel stories, and some are bunk some funny others deadly seroius, so like ancient romans who used human urine as mouthwash beware angels may also have so you need to understand it may have been the p talking. ie something the body don't need.

After understanding the horrors and destruction that religion in general, and Christianity in particular has brought upon mankind; I feel that (as a moral and humanitarian person) it is my duty to do anything I can to speed along its demise. Not through the sword (as Christianity was spread) but through educating others of the silliness and evilness of the mass cult.

I only care when it crosses over into secular law and some politician uses it to determine how I should live my life; otherwise I could care less about a book that has no basis for what it claims to be truth.
