Serious question. Their opinion of interpretation of scripture may be that homosexuality is a sin.

However, do they not realize that the only ultimate authority on scripture is God. Do they believe themselves to be God when pronouncing judgement on others', based on their opinion of interpretation?

And why do they single out homosexuality when pretending to be God, and interpreting the Bible literally? The literal interpretation of the Bible also states that the divorced (adulterers) are going to hell...along with the obese, (gluttons), those that are bankrupt, (stealing), those that drink to much coffee or pop, (excesses).

Why do they give all of their attention to the homosexuals? Could it be, this is a temptation for many more people, than actually will admit it...(Ted Haggard, Jim Bakker, Jim Mcgrevy, etc..).

So, why are fundamentalists so obsessed with the homosexual? Why are they concerned with the actions of two consenting adults in privacy?

I think part of their homophobic beliefs are (as you pointed out) because they are tempted, along the lines of "me think he doth protest too much!" Also, that it's human nature to fear that which we do not understand.

For many straight people, they do not comprehend how someone can be attracted to their own gender. Therefore, they latch onto the verses in their bible that claims homosexuality as a sin, to support their fear. They gladly ignore the fact that the bible says to hate the sin, not the sinnER, however.

Now, not ALL Christians hate gays. But, certainly a vocal (very loudly vocal) minority do.

First, you are right. Remarried people without a scriptural divorce are in danger of Hell. Gluttony is a sin and must be repented of, same with stealing, and all the other sins you mentioned.

Second, why are we obsessed with the homosexual?? Maybe the reason is because we are being forced to accept your lifestyle, forced to live with new unnatural laws (homosexual marriage) and constantly have homosexual rights thrown in our faces.

There are many Gay and Lesbian clubs out there but when have you last seen a Gluttony Club?? How about "bankrupt" club?? These issues are not constantly "shoved down our throats". If you want to live that sinful lifestyle, then do it in the privacy of your own home. It is unnatural and we should not be forced to accept such a sinful situation just because it is "politically correct". You should worry more about being "Bibically correct" because that is where it counts.

I am not judging you. God is judging you through the Bible. Homosexuality is a sin. It is NOT just my interpretation. It is a sin, plain and simple. Those who continue in a sin will not inherit heaven. These are facts according to God, not me. You can choose to ignore the Bible if you want to but it still will not make it right to be a homosexual.

You can call me homophobic if you want to. Homosexuality is unnatural and immoral and in my opinion, will never be acceptable.

I was raised in a fundamental church and I consider myself to be a fundamentalist now, but was a "conscientious objector" until my late 20s. I just simply didn't believe what I was raised to believe and this is one of the reasons why.

The people that I went to church with never associated with people who are different than them. I just don't believe that was what Christ intended for us as Christians. One of Jesus' best friends was a prostitute (before she met him)! The people I was raised around would have never befriended a prostitute or a gay person or maybe even someone with a different skin color in a million years! I just think that's wrong.

Fundamentalists need to examine what they believe and ask themselves if it's really Biblical - really what would Jesus do? He wouldn't be hating on or afraid of a gay person.

Any sin is bad and will separate us from God. There's no reason that homosexuality should be considered worse than eating your way to 300 pounds. I've never understood why people believe homosexuality is the worst thing that you could ever do/be. It's just not Biblical or even logical.

First of all, the term "homophobic" does not apply to me. Besides that I condemn no one, people condemn themselves by the choices they make. The Word of God is plain on these subjects. I'm not obsessed with homosexuals, I don't want to know what people do in the privacy of their bedrooms. But let's be honest here--the gay community has put it's business in the streets so it's fair game for commentary or whatever. You know the Bible says that homosexual behavior is an abomination (disgusting to God), it doesn't say that about every sin, so that puts the lie to the claim that all sin is equal. I am not trying to be offensive here, but I had nothing to do with writing the Bible so your arguement is not with me but with God.

There are a few misconceptions here....

It says, word for word, in The Bible that homosexuality is wrong. Old Testament = Leviticus
New Testament = Romans (I couldn't tell you the verses because I'm not Christian. I have Christian friends.)
In accordance to the religion, they are not called to hate and judge, but to love and guide. If a homosexual person does not accept their views, they've no right to intrude.

For the other sins you've mentioned....it seems you think it incredulous that you should go to "Hell" for doing them....maybe so...
But you have to admit....being fat is your own fault, and you CAN have too much of a good thing.
As for stealing - you have every right to if in desperation, I believe. The marital thing is just rediculous.

Those that are overly obsessed with homosexuality and banning it are as misguided as their group of focus. (Yes, I do not like homosexuality because I think it is unnatural and narcissistic. Do I campaign to stomp it out? No. It's the person's choice. I've had gay friends. I'll give them my views, but that's as far as I'll go. A person's a person).

Well, to be phobic of something implies fear. I'm not afraid of homosexual males or females. And yes, evidently it is more of a temptation than many folks would care to admit. And you are right, also....ALL manner of sex sin is condemned. And yes, there are plenty of other sins to talk about. However, the only group that i know of that are trying to reshape society with their own agenda are the homosexuals. So they attract alot of attention. It's no longer 2 adults in private..it's out of the closet, right? I can't sit by and not oppose the political agenda of a group I consider to be harmful.

We are not obsessed with homosexuality! Any sin is wrong. Homosexuality is a sin! We do not think we are God. We repeat God's Word to those who don't know it. If they take offense, then that is their choice. I don't hate homosexuals. I hate the sin. I do not wish for them to go to hell. That is a choice everyone has to make for themselves. Sin=Hell. Repentance=Heaven. Maybe the subject of homosexuality comes up so often, because it is brought up by others who are for it. They are constantly ranting about it, and so we answer their questions with GOD'S WORD, not our own words. We are not judging. We are simply stating what God says about sin. If I came up to you and said "You're a homosexual, and you're going to hell." then, I would be judging you. If I said, "God's Word, the Holy Bible says that homosexuality is a sin, and we are ALL BORN IN SIN." I would be simply telling you what God's word says. How is that judging? As a matter of fact, You brought this subject up, not me.

We are not obsessed, and I think the term "homophobic" is the wrong one to use. A phobia is a fear. We are not afraid. We simply believe that homosexuality is a sin. This is clearly stated in the Bible. No interpreting needed.

Expressing my opinion regarding what I consider to be a deviant act is not in any way judging you.

And I don't fear homosexuals or homosexuality.

first Jesus is a friend to all people and tells his followers to do likewise. He also says to share the gospel to all people-are you a person? are you a person who worships the creator in thankfulness Romans chapter 1 unthankful, or chapter 12 thankful
second their is hope for anyone-we have the power to choose to agree with Jesus and salvation or with a choice that is against that too

this is what helped me change to thankful in mind and heart and to know Jesus the one I had never sought=I suggest praying through what I give to you-and when a wrong thought comes to your mind-this works for me-I pray inside "The blood of Jesus rebuke/take away that thought." and it goes and then I put in whatever is good honest and pure to think about =Philippians 4:4-20 (especially verse 8) prayer, peace, power & plenty more.

this is what helped me to get victory over violence even in my thought life=joy -inspite of things-it is based on Jesus promise in his love for each of us

"I love you, and ask you to repent from your sins, even one lie, Behold I stand at your heart door and knock, if you hear my word and ask me in, I will come in and become your friend." Revelation 3:19&20

so I prayed "Jesus I am sorry for my sins, come into my heart and help me, be my friend, amen."

it gave me a new begining in life and if I get off tract-I ask Jesus to forgive me for letting him down and to restore the joy of my salvation so I can help others to find the way too. Psalm 51

praying for you and help to you, David
