No dioxins from plastics bottles, but chemicals none the less. Repeated hot/cold cycles can release chemicals in certain plastics. Once isn't going to do it, but if you do this everyday then the long term exposure can (may) be bad. Read the articles below.

Anybody that gives me a thumbs down... you ought to open your mind up a little. I used to think this wasn't true. I am not saying that everyone who does this once in a while is going to get cancer, but when plastics are heated, they release chemicals... that is a fact. Ask any person in the thermoplastics industry or with a degree in chemistry. The only real question is "Under normal conditions, do they release enough chemicals to be harmful and what are the effects of the chemical in the human body?" Personally, I'd rather limit my exposure.

Just as an aside, certain plastics in the microwave can release harmful chemicals as well. Best to stay with microwave safe plastics. Also, I no longer re-use my water bottles for several reasons including possible bacterial contamination.

JJ. Yes I did read these articles and you need to understand what is being said. When you heat plastics, they release chemicals. Read the part about plastics in microwaves. Well kiddo, any temperatures above 100 F or so can cause this. That is about what a car gets in the summer. I am not trying to be an alarmist here. I have an employee's relative who just was diagnosed with cancer that Johns Hopkins attributed to her habit of reusing plastic bottles. She would refill, freeze, and then let thaw in the car. Did this for years and years. She now has chemical-induced cancer. I thought it was bull at first and the part about dioxins is truely an urban legend since they don't contain dioxins. Freezing isn't the issue. Heating plastics is. Certain plastics (not PET bottles that we drink from typically) have now been linked to breast cancer. Honestly, I can't give an expert opinion about the link between cancer and this issue with water bottles, but I don't think we have heard the last of this and it has nothing to do with dioxins.

Beagle. Did you even read the articles you linked? Because they seem to agree with Scopes on this one bro. Even specifically saying that PET bottles are MORE safe. And that you should worry more about the quality of the water in the bottle than the bottle itself.

It takes a reasonably intense warmth for plastic to soften so i do no longer think of which you may get many of the chemical compounds from the bottle into the water. it particularly is why they make drink bottles out of plastic. additionally to the 1st poster maximum cancers is referred to as a viral an infection. you will be able to get extra bacteria from the water that ought to deliver approximately an upset abdomen yet I doubt it they attempt to make water as organic as achieveable to make it as risk-free as achieveable. It looks like a rumor to me. in case you pay attention to each factor ever suggested approximately what leads to maximum cancers of distinctive areas of your physique you does no longer desire to do something, devour/drink something anymore.
