I've had my hair blonde/brown/black/red over the years, but the majority of the time I keep it a medium/light blonde.(not sure why, but blonde just seems to be my favorite)I have noticed however, that when i decide to go darker....(like when i dyed my whole head a deep brown a few months ago)all other bruenettes that I know, start coming out of the woodwork to tell me how much better brown looks.I personally think these women are complimenting the brown because they themselves have never been blonde, & *say* they wouldn't want to be, since they have this negative connotation associated with blondes,as do most people. What is this about? It's almost....in my opinion, that browns are the "underdog"...because blondes are seen as popular/cheerleader/more feminine.....& browns are jealous?Anyway, when i switched my hair color to brown it just seems as if a lot of my college peers who are bruenettes suddenly wanted to be friends.Am i just imagining this or is this whole stereotypical thing true?

"Im a blond i think that the brunettes are jealous of the blonds b/c we are pretty and smart. i know tons of brunettes that dyed their hair blond. "

like Pamela Anderson smart? or Jessica Simpson smart? or perhaps Britney spears smart? There are plenty of dumb brunettes and it obviously doesn't depend on hair color but somehow blond people seem dumber then dumb.. and about being pretty.. far be it from me to judge you sine you don't have the picture up but some people look soo much better with dark hair especially natural blonds since most of the natural born blonds have light eyes such as green or blue, it become more vivid with dark brown or black hair... so it looks prettier.

There is no credible science indicating
that hair color has any effect on
intelligence or that intelligence
effects color. None.

However, there is a perception that
pretty people don't have to be smart,
and there is a perception that blondes
are more attractive than non-blondes.

Clearly the latter is purely
subjective, but it actually may have
an anthropological origin:

It is easier to see if your
potential mate is infected with
vermin if their hair is lighter.
That is, dark hair is easy for bugs
to hide in.

I kid you not.

Since healthy=sexy, the fact that
someone is obviously healthy (or at
least not infected) might be a mating
advantage to primative man.

And yes, healthy=sexy. The following
criterion are on the top of most
people's perception of sexy regardless
of culture:

1: Healthy teeth
2: Shiny Hair
3: Clear complexion
4: Correct hip/waste ratio

The ratios for number 4 are
different for men than women, but
the gut instinct very much depends
on these factors. You can talk about
personality, intelligence, humor, etc,
but these factors are common across
all of humanity.

Therefore, something that indicates
that somebody is likely to be healthy,
probably at some core spinal level,
is likely to be sexier than something
that doesn't indicate that.

I have also heard theories that,
since most naturally blonde's hair
darkens as they grow older,
artificially lightened hair gives the
wearer a more youthful (and all that
implies) appearance.

Most blondes, natural or otherwise, look better as brunettes. And the whole blonde stereotype has been around since the Ancient Egyptians. Light hair represents purity, and everyone has always wanted it. Brunettes aren't jealous, it's just the fact that the stereotype has been around for so long, they're a little...what's the word..in contempt.

I'm a natural blonde, but like you, I've had my hair all kinds of colors, I would prefer to be brunette, but I just try to let my hair stay natural, because men seem to favor blondes more anyways, but I don't doubt that I will get a wild hair and dye it again here soon!

Maybe they actually think you look better with brown hair. I personally think a lot of people look better with rich brown hair rather than blonde. Sometimes blond just doesn't look good on some people. Good luck.
