Man thats a skraight Ghetto Gun!
Throw that sumbitch away and get yourself a Taurus 605 .357 with a 3+ inch barrel. Change the grips to Pachmyr and you have yourself a fine weapon capable of shooting both .38 and .357 up to 158 grain bullets (hand cannon).

RE:
How good are the J. A. Nine handguns?
I am in the market for a handgun, a used one is fine since it will be my first to own. I came across a J.A. Nine 9mm for $145.00, and I was wondering if it is worth it to purchase. And I was wondering how it ranks on the list of handguns manufactured.

very poor quality. I wouldn't. Stick with name brands like Smith and wesson, colt, para ordinance etc. That way you get quality and parts and personnel are available to repair if there is a problem. A lot of police departments trade there guns in when the department upgrades. These handguns can be purchased prety reasonably. Most show a lot of holster wear on the finish, but are in very good condition. Try J&B sales online, or get a copy of "shotgun news" at the newsstand or barnes and noble book stores and look thru the ads. A word of advice, for a first time owner with little or no experience, stick with a revolver. It's simpler to operate and has very very few problems. A pistol can be tricky, tough to operate, and you need to be very familiar with it to be safe. For instance, did you know that you can cause certain pistols to jam when fired just by relaxing your wrist when shooting?

I would definitely not buy that piece of crap. Get something made by a reputable manufacturer- Glock, Smith & Wesson, Taurus, Rock Island Armory, Springfield Armory, Para Ordnance, etc.
You'll be much happier, you can find replacement parts if you need them, customer service will actually exist (unlike that no-name piece of crap you suggested, no offense), and if you ever want to sell it for whatever reason, you'll have an easier time finding someone to buy it (legally of course) than a no-name gun.

If this is to be your first handheld thunderstick then you want it to be a happy experience. EAA, Colt, Taurus, S&W, HK, SIG, plus quite a few others would be a happy experience. You get what you pay for.
