I went to church as a kid and by 4th grade I would skip sunday school with a friend and we would go to the gas station and load up on candy and slushees. I believe in god, its just that most churchs have cliques and what not and people there seem so fake. I knew people that would be out of church and they cuss and get drunk and be ungodly and sunday coming around theyd dress more proper and not let one profane word slip...its just fake to me.

I started going to church sometimes when I was about 8 or 9. Then I went every Sunday and also Youth Group Fridays when I was 13. Now I am having scruples with this particular church and am not going at all. That doesn't mean I have backslid, it just means I am looking for a new home church.

I went to church as a kid, but never really believed what was said there. I went because the adults said that I had to. Later, when I got the freedom to decide for myself I stopped going. Ultimately, I felt that the stories told in church were good morality tales, so of like Aesop's fables, but were not true in the historical sense. My subsequent readings of both the Bible and history only confirm that early conclusion.

I was raised Lutheran, and am now an Athiest. Not really because of my parents or the teachings, I just never really believed. I always wanted to, but I just remember thinking that all this is just a bunch of sh*t. When I was 16 I officially became an Athiest, so it has been 5 years. I feel released now, much happier. What weird is that when people give me guff about it, it only solidifies my beliefs (or lack thereof).

I did. I Grew up in a Christian home, went to a Christian school, and attended church every Sunday. I am now an atheist. I changed because I began to look closely at the doctrines and teachings. I cannot believe what they teach, so I went my seprate ways.

I've always been an atheist, but my Christian/Catholic parents did bring me to church. I either fidgeted the entire time (the stories were boring and outrageous), slept or went outside. I had to go outside most of the time because the church was falling apart and was filled with dust, etc. I had wretched allergies so I had to get out and wait for it to end. My parents don't go to church anymore. And of course I don't either. I never do and never will ever again.

Both of my parents were/are atheists. Yet they had to work so much that they hired babysitters to look after me. Most of these babysitters were Christians. I was taken to church from age 5 to 10. Today I am agnostic, but will avoid churches. No friends or family, or a girlfriend will convince me to go back.

Exactly.

The reason was because my parents SHOVED it down my throat (Mom is the church lady), but what really turned me off was that the church came to me with their hand out when I was confirmed (~13 years old).

They expected me to give them 10% of the income I didn't have? They hounded me about it (my opinion).

I feel I live by the Christian teachings of do unto others, 10 commandments etc.. but do I need to go sit in a building with others and give them $1000s, nope.

See ya.....

I went all the time as a kid.I havent been now in over 8 years.I believe in god,jesus...I find church boring.I guess I quit because of the people there.I dont beieve you have to be at church to go to heaven.I believe god loves us all, whether jewish, christian , whatever.Just as long as you are good & have faith.which I am & do.I know of a youth minister that loves to gamble & drink.she has went & gambled with the preacher.I remember people saying when I was young about our deacons smelling of booze.Worshipping in a crowd makes me nervous,HOWEVER children going to church is good.It can build morals & a good foundation. My girl (5) goes with a friend & she loves it.My son(14) doesnt care to go...I let them choose....But only after they went a few times....But i think I will go to heaven...hope to meet ya there
