Why does Final Cut Pro cost so much? I've seen it for £700!! It comes with a bunch of programs nobody uses. How can I get it cheaper? Have you got it cheaper?

Why does it cost so much?
Let's see the loaded labor rate for a software developer in Silicon Valley is about $200K year. You need a small army of developers, managers, testers and ancillary support staff to package up a program like that. Let's say 50 people dedicated to a release for one year, that's $10M in sunk cost just to get a release out the door. Then there is the cost of the materials they send to you, so another $50 or so in ink/paper/plastic per custom kit.
Apple would have to sell something like 10,000 copies just to break even at $1K per. Keep in mind that Apple sells it to distributors for less $, the distributor is getting price your being quoted. Apple really needs to sell 20,000 copies to break even.
So, if you were the business manager for Final Cut, how many "units" of final cut would you project you could sell before the next release comes out the door in a year? That window between releases is the only time you have to recoup the cost of developing the current release.
Factor that you need to return some money to the company/investors - i.e. Apple is a for profit business last I checked.
Consider that there probably isn't a huge market for this kind of application.
What's amazing is why all software products don't cost $100s per desktop.
